I'm looking for a cheap phone to hold me over until some new interesting
phone comes along. I don't want to negotiate a new contract extension in
the current environment. I may just jump to a new carrier if SMS doesn't
    show up soon.

But, I need a new phone to hold me over at least until number portability is
working. Perhaps a Sanyo 4900 or 6400? Are there any dealers where these
can be found at a reasonable price without new service or rebate? Any ideas
for an inexpensive phone that will last the next six months?

    Thanks!

Try going to Costco, if you have one in your area, I heard they have a $70.
Not sure what make & model.

Quite a challenge to find a cell phone on that site.
    I tried 'sprint' 'A460' 'N400' 'sanyo' '4900' and 'samsung' without a
    single result.

Ebay is a good place to get VERY cheap phones! Hell I have an old
touchpoint 2100 I'll give you for like 5-10 buck plus shipping cost.
It's not a Vision Phone, and it needs a Charger. Its a factory Refurb
and didnt include the charger, but I never activated it after it was
sent to me. If you interested send me a reply with your email and we can
    talk.

    Re: Cheap Phones

Maybe they're not listed online, but A-460s are still in some of the
CostCo stores at $67.99 plus tax. I got one last week when I needed an
inexpensive replacement. Frankly I'm extremely satisfied with the
phone. Sure, the battery life isn't the best, but I charge it daily
and while in the car. To me it's main weakness is the dull blue
screen, and increasing the contrast only darkens it. But heck, for
$68, I'm delighted. It's slim, lightweight and I've experienced none
of the problems--yet--that others have described.
