Had a seizure after giving blood-wondering why?
2003/Oct/29
[email protected] (257roberts) WROTE:
I gave blood recently (second time I gave) and after I ate the donuts
and juice, I sat down like they told me, and then the next thing I
knew, the nurse was telling me I had had a seizure on the waiting room
floor. They said I hit my head as I fell too. I am 30 male and in
good health. Emergency room visit could find nothing wrong later.
Needless to say, the Red Cross said they didn't want me to donate
again. Anyone have any ideas what happened? Thanks,
BOXMAN

Boxman:
You had a vasovagal reaction. Very common, even after giving blood for
labwork. Blood pools in the lower extremeties, your blood pressure bottoms
out, no return of blood to the heart, hence no blood going to the brain,
then you pass out and may or may not exhibit seizure symptoms. Treatment ->
lie down flat, supplemental oxygen if available, continue to lie down until
you are feeling better. No cause for alarm, but be aware that you may have
this occur again. BTW, next time ask on WEBMD, not this new group.

Re: Had a seizure after giving blood-wondering why?
Thanks for your reply, that makes me feel better after the ER people
couldn't figure out what happened. I'm thinking the other poster
assumed that I was giving blood to earn money. I was only giving
because of a blood drive. I don't think the Red Cross pays for blood.
I own an equipment rental company, some days though, I think I might
could make more money selling blood!! Business has been tough lately.
I will post to the other NG next time, sorry I posted to this one.

I doubt it was a seizure. At the threshold of LOC due to loss of BP, many
patients get a fight/flight thing going. Wasn't there, but I'd bet that's
more likely for the reasons already stated.

LOL - Thats what the "know-it-all" Sprint employees or their apologist friends
tell everyone for everything. It never could be:
+ Cell shrinkage from overselling
+ A problematic phone with "known" issues
+ The deficiencies of 1.9 MHZ CDMA
+ A known hole in Sprint's coverage pattern.

DID YOU READ THE SUBJECT LINE?
Scott was pulling the guy's leg.
Does every answer to every question have to include a Sprint slam?
