Does anyone know how to hack the roaming on the Sanyo 7400 so that I can
make it roam on 800 MHz digital even when there is a native Sprint Signal? I
used to do this with a Motorola V60i and at times it was quite useful.

    Thanks,

    Why would you want to?

Assume that you have a very low Sprint signal and are dropping calls in your
current location. The phone will not roam because of the faint Sprint
signal. Forcing digital roaming would be an advantage. I used to force my
V60i to roam on Sprint when there was inadequate Verizon signal. I am
looking for the opposite capability on the 7400. The menu provides an option
for force roaming, however, it only permits forcing analog roaming.

    Than ks,

I do just the opposite with an 800mhz Verizon phone that I force to PCS
oly or directly enter the Sprint Channel number.

Geting into the sub menus (debug or programming) and finding an option
    is where to start.

I think with Sprint the easist way is to sign up for a roaming
    inclusive plan.
I'm guessing that will change the PRL to include more 800mhz access.

Somehandsets just don't have the option to force other networks,
somelike the Audiovox 9500/9900 have a huge menu of network preference
options to set the handset to prefer or avoid.

IIRC, it's been ahwile. With phones that don't lock the
programming/debug menu access, then there's also the trick of resetting
the SID to the carrier of your choice system.

Mountain wireless.com might have some more info on SPCS manipulation.
IIRC, Sprint users.com forum could be another source for more info.

I thought Sprint phones are usually locked to prevent access to sub
menus, but I could be mistaken.

Some handsets like the Motorolas, even unlocked, just don't have the
ability to choose even "digital only" networks, let alone, "PCS only".

It appears that the 7400 does not allow forcing digital roam mode even from
    the diagnostic sub menus. Bummer!!

FYI, the Roaming menu of some of the newer Samsungs, such as the 740 and
760, has "Sprint only", "Automatic", and "Roaming"; the last choice is
instead of "Analog". So on those models, you can force roaming and you
    might get digital.
