Perhaps this...

....is a silly question, but I thougt I'd toss it out nevertheless: if
you ask a service provider to send an internet signal to you via your
cell phone, can you then put the phone near your wi-fi enabled laptop
and grab the signal that way? Just wondering.

You mean the same way my TV can pick up radio signals?

I don't care which protocol's involved, really. I just need dedicated
access to the 'net at the flick of a wrist. See, I'm not always in
places that have a handy wi-fi signal ready for snagging, so, assuming
the signal can be readily transmitted over a cell phone,
I though that'd be the way to go. That's all.
