Retrieving old contacts and text messages from SIM card

Is it possible, through AT&T, to retrieve old contacts and text messages that were once on a SIM card? I had always thought that they might have a index of sorts, showing whom you've added as a contact and whom you've texted. Does that exist?

i lately tried to recover data but i couldnt do it - i read a lot and used many tools for this
im not saying its impossible though

No carrier can read the contents of your SIM card remotely. If you have the SIM card, a corporate store has software and hardware to copy contacts from a SIM card even if your new or old telephone is locked to a different carrier. Messages have not been stored on SIM card for the past five to ten years. Your records, accessible through OnLine Account Management (OLAM), show the numbers to and from which calls and messages were sent and received. You can download PDF copies of detailed bills from the same place.
