They have to be unlocked. Each carrier locks the phones to their signal, so in order for you to use it on a different carrier, you have to get it unlocked. So far, none of the answers given in the forum has helped me. There must be someone out there who can direct us to a particular site or individual who can provide more detailed information about do-it-yourself unlocking.

I think an Audiovox cell phone is programmed with a voice mail number based on the service provider's settings and will work only within that provider's network. I worked on a project as a Construction Project Engineer in Hawaii and at that time I used http://tcawireless.com/ for unlocking CDMA phone. I think you can check this.
