I spent a lot of time getting to the bottom of his problem. I'm
a software developer, and have just added proper support for
these extension-table characters in an SMS sending program of
mine. I couldn't get it working properly, and eventually
nailed my choice of a Telstra SIM for testing as the source of
the "bug".
The SMS packed PDU (Protocol Data Unit) User Data field I'm
sending is different from what I'm receiving. I can only
assume that Telstra is unpacking the message content (for
whatever reason), but is not putting it back together properly.
