I have been having trouble downloading screensavers and ringtones on my Sanyo 8100 from Bell. My husband phoned the tech support person from Bell and he told him that we should call Sanyo to ask what they did. So I called Sanyo Canada and he said that Bell specifically asked for the phones port to be disabled. When I inquired how, he said it was the hardware and wouldn't say anything else. If you buy a phone it should be yours and you should have the right to download what you want not what Bell wants you to do.

I downloaded Bitpim and it works until it comes time to transfer info. from the computer to the phone.

Is there anyone else in this same situation, and if so have you come across the answer?

I have the exact same problem!

You said bitpim worked until you transfer form your computer to the phone... Can you transfer from the phone to your computer??

And you're right, that is BS... We bought the phones! I bought mine with the understanding that I can get a cable off of ebay, since that is what the Bell sales rep told me when I bought the phone and I had asked him whether they sell cables as well...

No I cannot transfer from the phone to computer. What I had on the phone like addresses and emails I was able to transfer to the computer. I had bought a cable and CD off of Ebay but it was for a Mac application. My computer is a Mac but and OSX system. You can buy the cable from Bell but it is for the Mac system. I have just about give up trying to do anything on it.

I downloaded the last official version of bitpim, and now the boxes that were grayed out are no longer grayed out... But I still get error logs.

I'm not even sure which way to plug the cable in? is it supposed to make the phone act like it's charging? with the charging icon at the top? Or does that mean the cable is upside down?

The driver no longer shows up as a com port either, so I can't find it and reinstall it...

    Grrr!

Honestly... there isn't much you can do. I work for a bell affiliate and they have disabled all transfers of pic, ringtones, video, etc from the comp to cell and vice versa via cable.

And i agree with everyone. It is bull**** and I hope legilsation is passed that will stop cell phone providers from doing that sort of thing. We own the phones, the providers should not be restricting the capabilites of the phones.

I have not heard anything from customers or anything that i can myself find that will reliably deal with the issue.

An option that you have is buying a phone from an american or Asian dealer (they don't seem to restrict phones as much). Make sure you get the programming lock codes and then activate it on the bell system.

I too am having the same stupid problem. I bought the phone with the understanding that I could transfer images to my phone via the usb cable. Now they tell me they disabled the hardware/software (can't remember which) in the phone.

Is there no way to by pass this? Disable it? Anything?

When I bought my phone, the guy at the Bell store told me when I was buying my phone, that if I can find a cable on ebay or something, since Bell doesn't sell them, I'll be able to use it. Just for that misinformation, I should get free online transfers of my images. I would not have bought a camera phone just to pay $2 or whatever every time to transfer an imge.
