recently my motorola v551 phone got ran over but i managed to save the sim card and battery. my contract for cingular is not over so they wont give me a new phone without paying alot. i plan to buy the same v551 off ebay but am unsure if i transfer my sim card into the phone if all my settings, photos, and numbers will be the same. if its not then i might consider getting a completely different phone. i guess the question im asking is do phones have internal memory besides the sim card and will the phone work if i plan on bying one off ebay.
Help would be most appreciated.

the SIM card can only hold your account info, and your contacts. Unfortunately, your settings, pictures, ringtones and anything else that was saved to the broken V551 will be lost. If you saved your contacts to the sim card, they will still be there, regardless of the brand or model phone that you buy. If they were saved to the phone, they are gone as well. Just make sure you buy a Cingular branded phone off of EBAY, unlocked phones have the possiblity of not having all functions unlocked. i.e. text, mms, media net, voicemail...

When you do get the new phone, ALSO pick up a data cable, so that you can backup all the information on your phone to the computer. That way no matter what phone you get in the future, you will be able to put any pictures, ringtones and address book, to the new phone. You will of course need software to backup the phone after you get it setup the way you like it.

This would be a good place to start for phone tools for editing and and the like. The Motorola Phone tools link will work, for basic backup of address/contacts, ringtone and graphics, as well as editing them as well. (pretty easy to use and understand)
Motorola Phone Tools 3.23 is an link on the above page, in the first message. It will work with a data cable or bluetooth.

In addition, if you do not purchase a data cable & Motorola Phone Tools, you can always e-mail the pictures to yourself & save them on the hard drive.

Yup that works too as a fast and easy backup on the fly.
