Re: What was your first operating system you used at home
My first computer was a Tandy 386SX/25 with 2MB of Ram and an 85MB HD. It came with Dos 6.2 and Windows 3.0.
I remember thinking that I would *NEVER* be able to fill an 85MB HD!
Now I've got over 1TB of storage space in my HTPC server and I'm running out of room!

Re: What was your first operating system you used at home
I first started using computers in school in '95 on PCs which didnt have any harddisk !
Each one had a floppy disk with MS-DOS loaded and had to go to school eveyday with the OS in our bag ! 1.44MB was the max capacity !
...its like today's mobile world...no internal harddisk for user storage - only RAM and hot-swappable disks !

Re: What was your first operating system you used at home
My first OS was Commodore BASIC 2.0 on a Commodore 64, it didn't come with an type of storage device so everytime I wanted to do something I would spend hours coding the program. I remember my favorite would display a hot air balloon that went back and forth on the TV it was connected to. Later I upgraded to the Tandy 1000 EX and was living the high life with Window 3.1.

Re: What was your first operating system you used at home
Windows 3.0 here. Then 3.11. And I had 3.11 for a while before I got 98. WHAT a change. Rofl.
Then it was ME, which I later upgraded to 2000 PRO (of which I still use. Best OS I have ever used probably... ME was crap.) And I also use Windows XP Pro Japanese OEM and Gentoo Linux on my older laptop to squeeze(manually might I add) all of the performance out of the old-timer.
When I learned C(then C++), I decided the best environment to cod ein was 98 at the time.Another consumer-insight post thanks to,
Joey
