As many of you already know by now, Apple has finally unveiled its latest smartphone line-up yesterday. The Cupertino-based giant has lifted the veil on the iPhone 5s flagship, as well as the iPhone 5c. As the rumors have suggested before, the iPhone 5C is a more budget-friendly device that makes a few compromises for the sake of a lower price tag. That's quite a surprising strategy coming from Apple, but hold your horses, as the iPhone 5C is not really one of the most affordable devices out there. So let's take a close look at what the iPhone 5C actually has to offer.

Spec-wise the gadget arrives with a 4.0 inch display featuring a resolution of 640 x 1136 and a pixel density of 326 pixels per inch (same as the iPhone 5S), an Apple A6 dual-core processor clocked at 1.3 GHz, a PowerVR SGX 543MP3 graphics chip, 1 GB of RAM, 16 / 32 GB of internal storage, an 8 MP main camera complemented by a 1.2 MP secondary camera, iOS 7.0 out of the box and a battery that is said to last for roughly 250 hours of stand-by and 10 hours of talk time.

As far as the design of the gadget goes, much like it's been rumored before, the iPhone 5C is built out of polycarbonate (plastic) instead of aluminum. The design of the gadget is pretty much the same as suggested by all of those earlier leaks. More so, the handset is going to be offered in five different colors, including green, blue, yellow, red and white. Additionally, Apple has designed some rather interesting cases for the device, which also arrive in green, blue, yellow, red, white as well as black. Buyers of the device can pick any color combination between the one of the case and the device itself. This sounds like a pretty nice touch, but on the other hand, I really have a big issue with the whole case deal, mainly because I find the design to be somewhat "rushed", or not too thoroughly thought. On short, the 5C case features a handful of round holes that show off the real color of the handset's back panel underneath -which isn't necessarily a bad idea-. My biggest gripe with this idea however, is that the case partially covers the "iPhone" logo in a rather unappealing way, leaving the letters "hon" (out of "iPhone") visible.

But anyway, the handset features LTE connectivity too, and in case you didn't know this, the iPhone 5C has completely replaced the iPhone 5. The latter has now been discontinued, so if you're looking for an affordable alternative to the iPhone 5S, then the 5C is your only option. The gadget will set you back $100 or $200 on-contract for the 16 and 32 GB variant respectively. If you wish to buy the gadget unlocked (off-contract), then get ready to pay $550 or $650.

The iPhone 5C is not available for pre-order (and chances are that it will never be), but Apple's official page indicates that prospective customers will be able to pick one up from the brick&mortar stores starting with September 20.

Would anyone be interested in buying the iPhone 5C?
