Last week we've discussed quite a bit about the LG Enact, a brand new Android device that's now available in the US via Verizon, featuring a 5-row physical QWERTY keyboard that slides out on the side. In a mobile world that consists mostly in full-touch handsets, a "side-slider" is a pretty rare sight. The good news is that, according to the latest leaks, the LG Enact might actually face some competition in the foreseeable future.

The images you see above and below have been recently leaked on the web, and they depict a Motorola handset that we've never seen before. Supposedly, this particular Moto side-slider will be available through Verizon – as suggested by the presence of the carrier's logo on the lower side of the front panel. In other words, what we're looking at may be the next-generation Droid 5.

As far as the handset's specifications go, I'm afraid that there's not much to tell in terms of sheer performance, but the photos have given us a few interesting clues. Allegedly, the gadget could benefit from water, dust and shock resistance, it could deliver a 4.3 or a 4.5 inch display, and it will take advantage of NFC support. More so, it appears that the back panel conceals some wireless charging internals. Last but not least, the handset appears to make use of on-screen navigation keys, and not capacitive ones, just as the latest Droid line-up does.

There's also a third picture that has been revealed (below), showing off the handset's camera software. However, those of you who are familiar with older Motorola devices should recognize this particular camera layout, which, for those of you who don't know, is rather old. This suggests that the Droid 5 (or whatever the name) that has been captured in these photos is running prototype software.

Speaking of prototypes, this leads us to the last bullet point, which concerns the handset's availability. Evidently, it's much too early to figure out when the Droid 5 will go on sale, but more importantly, we can't really be 100% certain that the device will become a reality. The gadget you see above could very well be a prototype which may or may not see the light of day. We're evidently hoping for the former possibility, but until more bits of information surface, I recommend that you don't make any plans concerning this particular device.

In any case, would you be interested in a Motorola Droid 5? What features would you like the handset to deliver?
