During an event held in New Delhi, India -and after a set of rumors that have previously hinted the handset's existence- Nokia has finally lifted the veil on the Asha 501.

As the lack of the "Lumia" branding in its name suggests, the Asha 501 is not a Windows Phone device and it's also targeted at the budget-friendly market. Hardware-wise, the 501 is a bare-bone smartphone that packs a 3 inch LCD touchscreen supporting a resolution of 240 x 320, a 3.2 MP camera on the back (no auto-focus or flash), 128 MB of internal storage, a microSD card slot that allows the user to expand storage by up to an additional 32 GB, Bluetooth, FM Radio, Wi-Fi and a 1,200 mAh battery under the hood which provides 56 hours of music playback and up to 17 hours of talk time. The device also comes hand in hand with a 4 GB microSD card that's included in the package.

The most interesting part regarding this device is that it comes in six different colors. As such, buyers will have the option of choosing between black, white, red, blue, yellow and green flavors. Additionally, the Asha 501 packs 40 free video games provided by EA, and it also comes pre-loaded with popular applications such as Twitter and Facebook.

Though the Nokia Asha 501 is limited only to 2G internet speeds, the Finnish manufacturer has pre-installed the Xpress browser on the handset, which is able to compress data by up to 90%.

Last but not least, the handset will be available in single or dual-SIM variants, so overall, the 501 seems to offer a lot of options for its range. The gadget will cost $99 before carrier subsidy and taxes, but the exact launch date hasn't been unveiled yet.
