During the past several months, Samsung has greatly expanded its smartphone line-up. Smartphones such as the Galaxy S4 Active, Mega 5.8 and 6.3 as well as the SGS4 Mini are either already launched or getting ready for a market release. But among all of these newly rumored and / or already announced devices resides the Galaxy S4 Zoom; a camera-centric smartphone that has also received its fair share of leaks and rumors. But no longer, as the Korean manufacturer has now made the S4 Zoom official!
Indeed, the S4 Zoom is real and it's now getting prepared for its release. Samsung has just lifted the veil on this gadget, and in case you're wondering what it can do, then here's what you need to know:
Hardware-wise, the SGS4 Zoom shares many similarities with the SGS4 Mini. The Zoom packs a 4.3 inch AMOLED display with a resolution of 540 x 960 and a pixel density of 256 ppi, Corning Gorilla Glass 3 protection, a dual-core processor with a frequency of 1.5 GHz, 1.5 GB of RAM, 8 GB of internal storage (out of which 5 GB are user accessible), and SDXC support for expandable storage. Additionally, the S4 Zoom is being powered by a 2,330 mAh battery, it supports 2G, 3G and 4G LTE bands and it also runs on Android 4.2.2 with the TouchWiz user interface on top.
But the most prominent feature (literally and figuratively) is the Zoom's main camera. As mentioned above, this is a camera-centric smartphone, and it shows.
The
Samsung Galaxy S4 zoom is equipped with a 16 MP main sensor featuring 10x optical zoom, xenon flash, OIS (optical image stabilization), ISO support up to
3200, 4fps burst mode featuring auto focus as well as "Smart mode". The gadget also features a secondary 1.9 MP camera that pretty much goes unnoticed in contrast with the 16 MP beast.
Overall, the
Samsung Galaxy S4 Zoom seems to be a rare breed. It's a
Mix between the Galaxy Camera point-and-shoot and the recently announced
Galaxy S4 mini. It also looks rather odd and the front panel is the only section which gives away the fact that this device has smartphone capabilities. It really is a strange mix between a smartphone and a camera, but I tend to view it more like a point-and-shoot with phone functionality, rather than the other way around.
