The
Samsung Galaxy S4 is one of the most successful smartphones of the year, and chances are that the device is also the most sold Android handset of 2013. Nevertheless, as time goes by, new smartphones are hitting the market, and the SGS4 is no longer the most powerful Samsung gadget available. That title has been taken by the
Galaxy Note 3, which arrives with a more powerful CPU, more RAM and more features. Despite all that, the Galaxy S4 is still a rather fresh device, and normally, we wouldn't discuss the arrival of a successor so early. However, it appears that sources from Korea have now started speculating some interesting bits of information concerning the SGS5, so let's take a look at what the future might hold for us.
To begin with, the sources claim that the
Galaxy S5 will most likely hit the market at an earlier date than initially expected. Insiders suggest that the next Samsung flagship will be teased in January 2014, and officially announced in February. Allegedly, this decision of launching the next flagship smartphone earlier, has been taken by Samsung due to the "low" sales figures of the Galaxy S4. To be more precise, while the SGS4 still sold like hotcakes, the Korean manufacturer was expecting even higher sales figures, but the Galaxy S4 has not reached the internal target.
That being said, Samsung has supposedly decided to shorten the life cycle of the ongoing flagship to 9 months or so, by bringing the launch date of the Galaxy S5 closer.
In addition to these reports concerning the S5's release, sources from Korea have also revealed some interesting aspects in regards to the device itself. According to these reports, the next flagship will feature a 64-bit Exynos processor, and a 16 MP main camera boasting optical image stabilization. The camera itself is rumored to be a spin-off on the 16 MP sensor that is found on the
Galaxy S4 zoom cameraphone. Additionally, the Galaxy S5 would feature a fingerprint scanner, and for the first time in the Galaxy S series, the handset will feature a body made out of metal instead of plastic.
That's all there is to it so far, but we're only in mid-October, and if Samsung really intends on unveiling the device as early as February (perhaps at the Mobile World Congress) than we're bound to stumble across more bits of information concerning the handset's whereabouts and what makes it tick.
