With the Sony Xperia S falling somewhat behind the competition Sony intends on keeping their Xperia lineup alive and kicking. As we've reported before the company is planning on launching an updated version of the Xperia S dubbed the Xperia SL. Nevertheless in order to play with the big dogs the manufacturer needs to come up with something a bit more powerful than that. Sony knows this and now, a new contender appears on the Radar.

Previously there were a few rumors concerning a certain Sony LT30 "Mint" and now it appears that this particular device is heading towards its release under the name of Sony Xperia T.

The Sony Xperia T is basically a smaller version of the Xperia GX from Japan and as far as hardware specifications go, the T boasts a 4.3 inch screen with a resolution of 720 x 1280 and 342 ppi pixel density, a Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 dual-core CPU, 1 GB of RAM, 16 GB of built-in storage expandable via microSD, a 13 MP camera on the back with LED flash and F2.4 aperture size, front facing camera and Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich out of the box. Also, the device seems to feature ICS-specific on-screen buttons similar to the Samsung Galaxy Nexus.

As far as the exact release date of this particular handset goes, there's not much to tell at this point in time but Sony might reveal more about their upcoming flagship handset during the IFA event in Berlin held at the end of this month.
