Despite Sony's effort to put an end to leaks, tons of information concerning the Sony Xperia Z1 f have been revealed on the blogosphere during these past several weeks. But, the time for leaks and rumors is pretty much over, as the Xperia Z1 f (also known as the Xperia Z1 Mini) has now been officially announced in Japan.

As suggested by unofficial information before, the Xperia Z1 f is indeed a compact smartphone that features flagship-worthy hardware specifications. The gadget is being powered by a Snapdragon 800 quad-core processor running at 2.2 GHz, 2 GB of RAM, an Adreno 330 graphics chip, and features 16 GB of internal storage expandable by up to an additional 64 GB via microSD. The package draws juice from a 2,300 mAh battery, and everything is being coordinated by Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean. Interestingly enough, the Xperia Z1 f also boasts the same 20.7 MP main camera that is present on the back panel of the Xperia Z1.

So far, the Xperia Z1 f seems to be identical with the Z1, but that's not really the case. The Z1 f actually delivers a 4.3 inch display with a resolution of 1280 x 720, whereas the fully-sized Z1 delivers a 5 inch panel boasting a resolution of 1920 x 1080.

In other words, the Z1 f is quite a unique device. In a world where Android smartphone manufacturers tend to increase the screen size and resolution in parallel with processing power, Sony has delivered a compact 4.3 incher that packs the most powerful CPU and GPU on the market, as well as a fantastic camera on the back. More so, given the fact that the Z1 f has less pixels to worry about, chances are that the Snapdragon 800 CPU will perform better on the compact variant, than on the 5-inch 1080p Z1.

I think that the Z1 f will be like a breeze of fresh for those who are not really fans of big-screen Android smartphones, but at the same time, they don't wish to buy an underpowered handset. Sadly, so far we have no details in regards to where the handset will go on sale, aside from Japan. What we've learned thus far is that the Z1 f will hit NTT DoCoMo's shelves sometime in December. Hopefully, Sony will eventually ship the Z1 f across the ocean, and into the western markets as well.
