The original Droid RAZR has been on Motorola's "future-to-be updated to Android 4.1" list for quite some time, and if you happen to own this particular gadget then you should know its history. Anyhow, the good news is that Verizon has recently started to finally roll-out the Jelly Bean update on the respective device, and this time it's the real deal.

The package is being deployed over-the-air so if you're the owner of a RAZR / RAZR MAXX then you should be able to pull the files by accessing the Settings menu > About phone > System updates. Nevertheless, as with pretty much OTA release, the update is being deployed in phases, which means that you might have to wait for your turn before you'll be able to download the new OS.

In any case, the files weight about 338 MB and the changelog is quite large. Motorola has removed a lot of its "bloatware" applications (MOTOACTV, MOTOPRINT, Alarm and Timer, Verizon Video on Demand and Social Location), most of them being replaced by vanilla Android alternatives. In addition, the update comes hand in hand with a new user interface which consists in updated colors, icons, fonts and animations, Google Now is obviously on-board, the camera application has been enhanced and now includes a more intuitive Panorama Mode, the on-screen keyboard has been enhanced, the Gallery app now includes the option to zoom out into filmstrip mode where the user can delete photos by swiping up or down, and the Chrome Browser is also included.

A handful of widgets have also been removed, such as My Gallery, My MOTOCAST, My Music, Social Location, Sticky Note, Picture Slideshow and Weather & World Clock.

The changelog goes on with various improvements and bugfixes, but you get the point. It's a pretty big update and you'll definitely notice a difference.

One last thing to mention is the fact that this 338 MB package is available only for those of you that run Android 4.0.4 Ice Cream Sandwich. Droid RAZR owners that have received the accidental X-mas build back in December will only receive a 38 MB download instead. In both cases, your gadget will run on the same Android 4.1.2 OS version after the installation process ends.
