    Hi all,

I want to find the least expensive phone that I can sync with Outlook. So I can have access to my Contacts and Calendar. Can anyone recommend something? I'm leaning towards Cingular or Sprint as a provider, and if possible would like to purchase the phone from them.

    Thanks in advance!

I dont know alot about Sprint but I do know that Cingular's system seems to be the most flexible for doing things: downloading stuff (games, programs, ringtones), synchronization, etc. Verizon's system, by comparison, seems to be far more restrictive: can only download items from their sources, for which of course they charge. Much of my family has Verizon and I have been stunned to see what I can do with my phone/service provider over theirs. Again, I dont know alot about Sprint but depending on what you want to do, and before you sign that 1-2 year contract, make sure you'll be able to do it with absolute freedom.

For contacts and calendar: Most phone makers offer some kind of software these days with which you can sync contacts and calendar information between the phone and your computer. You'll need a cable and the software. There are also over the air solutions. personally, i use 3molen but there are others. The service works over GPRS so i dont mess with cables (incidentally, a friend has a Motorola v300 from t-mobile and according to motorola her phone should be able to do over the air synchronization but t-mobile had the phones delivered with the sync option disabled, as we discovered - yet another example of one service provider limiting the abilities others have with similar phones and different providers - i have a v551 from cingular. But I digress and risk a full on rant).

    HTH, zroue

p.s dont know much about the individual phones out there at present, sorry.

    Sync to Outlook

    Hi,

Thanks for the reply. I keep hearing about all the hassles people are getting from various providers. It's disheartening, isn't it?

Ideally I'd like to actually sync the phone to Outlook directly. There may be software available that gives you "phone management" functionality, so you can enter data via your computer and then download to the phone, but I'd have to figure out a way to get the data from Outlook to that software. I'd like to avoid that extra step if I can.

Thanks again. Hopefully someone will make a recommendation.
