Click here for Wikipedia's definition of Bluetooth.
Now, after reading that you know all the different things bluetooth can be used for. As far as cell phones are concerned, Verizon is the only carrier I know of that disabled all the bluetooth functionality of their phones except for wireless headsets. They have done this to prevent people from getting free stuff on their phone; they want you to pay for their ringtones, etc.
If Bluetooth transfers are disabled on your phone, you may use an expandable memory slot with a miniSD card, but if your phone doesn't have one of those you would have to use a data cable or your phone's web browser to get files to your phone.
If you want a music player on your phone, you don't necessarily need bluetooth to transfer the files if you use one of the abovementioned methods. Did I miss anything? Hope tyhat answered all your questions...

Oh no, you should get a phone with a music player, otherwise the only way to "listen" to anything would be to preview it as a ringtone. The MiniSD slot is just a convenient way to transfer files back and forth from the phone to the computer and also good for additional storage capacity.
Make sure you do some research into the limitations of different phones' "music players" before you jump into buying one; does it play mp3 files or will you have to convert them, can you use any file from your computer or do you have to listen through their interactive libraries or purchase them through your phone's browser, etc.
