Hey guys I was thinking about upgrading to an iphone 4 or a Droid x but I wasn't sure with LTE being around the corner if I should wait or not?.But if I wait I'll be shelling out way more money then I would want to.

I would say wait a little bit... You might spend a little more money yes, but there will be no regrets one the lte that comes up is what you really want in the end.

If your waiting on LTE or 4G, it depends on what area you live. It's going to spread more slowly than people think. If you are not in one of the markets during the initial release, you could be waiting a couple of years before it hits your area.

You could wait and buy an LTE/4G phone even if you are not in an area that is covered by LTE/4G. Remember that with Sprint, you are charged more per month for that phone even if you don't have LTE/4G service available where you live, they same could be with AT&T or Verizon

But If I am locked in with a set Price a month with a 2 year contract they can't change it right?

if they offer the phone you want you will have to ask if they can allow you to have that for an upgrade, otherwise you'll just have to buy yourself out of the contract

Re: Is this a good time to upgrade to a new phone?

My friend has a Sprint EVO 4G. We live in Arizona where there is no 4G service but there is a $10 extra cost per month because he has a 4G capable phone. He'll continue to pay that extra $10 a month for the life of the contract.

I imagine that all carriers will do something similar. Charge extra for 4G or LTE service, even if you don't live in a 4G or LTE area.

I imagine when they roll out the LTE service on Verizon or the 4G service on AT&T, it will only cover 30% of the country. Good chance you won't live in one of those areas.

Here's what it comes down to about which phone to buy or waiting on a LTE/4G phone. Do you think you live in an area that will get 4G/LTE within the next 2 years? If not, then go for the iPhone4 or Droid now and then hopefully within 2 years you'll have 4G/LTE in your area and then upgrade.

If you know you'll have 4G/LTE within 6 months, then wait if you like. I would probably just get the phone you want now unless you feel real confident that LTE/4G will hit your area.

I personally wouldn't even sign up for a contract, you can use a top smartphone on unlimited service for under $40 a month or less. See the website in my signature

Strike a bargain... I'm sure they'd rather give you an option or lose you, right?
