Enable Battery Saving Mode:

  1. Tap “Apps” on the home screen
  2. Access “Settings”
  3. Scroll to “Device” and tap “Battery”
  4. Tap “Menu”
  5. Turn on “Battery saver”

Lower the Screen Brightness and Timeout Duration:

  1. Open the phone’s “Settings” menu
  2. Scroll to “Device” and tap “Display”
  3. Disable “Adaptive brightness” if necessary
  4. Tap “Brightness level” and drag the slider towards the left side of the screen
  5. Go back to “Display” and tap “Sleep”
  6. Select a lower timeout value, such as “15 seconds” or “30 seconds”

Disable Connectivity Features When Unused:

NOTE: By turning off the phone’s connectivity features when they are not in use (including Wi-Fi, GPS, Bluetooth, and Hotspot), you can prolong battery life in the long run.

  1. Swipe the “Status” bar down on the home screen using two fingers
  2. Tap the “Bluetooth”, “Wi-Fi” and “Location” tiles to turn off these features
  3. Open the “Settings” menu
  4. For more GPS options, tap “Location” > “Mode” > “Battery saving”
  5. To disable hotspot, return to “Settings”
  6. Under “Wireless & Networks”, tap “More”
  7. Tap the switch to disable “Tethering & Mobile Hotspot”

Change Sync Settings:

NOTE: By reducing the amount of data synced by your apps / accounts, you can increase battery life in the long run.

  1. Go to “Settings”
  2. Scroll to “Personal”
  3. Tap “Accounts”
  4. Select an account type and tap the account you want to edit
  5. Clear / check the boxes associated with the sync options you want to disable or enable
  6. Tap “Menu” > “Sync now”

Minimize Third Party App Usage:

NOTE: Certain third party apps affect battery performance even when they are not in use, due to the fact that some apps perform regular background processes. Thus, by turning off or removing unused third party applications, you can improve battery life in the long run.

  1. Access the “Settings” menu
  2. Scroll to “Device”
  3. Tap “Apps” and go to “Downloaded”
  4. Select the desired app
  5. Tap “Disable” / “Force stop” to turn off the app
  6. To remove the app from the phone, tap “Uninstall” > “OK”

NOTE: Recent tests have shown that both Facebook and Facebook Messenger can greatly affect battery performance. If possible, it’s recommended to remove these apps from your phone and use alternative apps, such as Facebook Lite.

Switch to 2G Networks:

NOTE: In case your phone runs low on battery and you don’t have quick access to a wall socket or battery bank, you can temporarily switch to 2G connectivity to increase battery life until the next recharge.

  1. Go to “Settings”
  2. Tap “More” under “Wireless & Networks”
  3. Tap “Mobile networks”
  4. Tap “Preferred network type” and select “2G”

Keep the OS Up To Date:

NOTE: Software updates can sometimes include improvements to battery life, so it’s recommended to keep the phone’s OS up to date at all times. To check for new updates:

  1. Open “Settings”
  2. Scroll down to “System”
  3. Tap “About phone” > “System updates”
  4. If necessary, follow the on-screen prompts to download and install available updates
