Turn On Battery Saving Mode:
- Access the Settings menu
- Scroll to Device and tap Battery
- Tap Menu
- Enable Battery saver
Turn Off Connectivity When Unused:
NOTE: By turning off the phones connectivity features when unused (such as Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, Hotspot and GPS), you can improve battery life in the long run.
- Swipe the Status bar down on the home screen
- Tap the tiles associated with Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, and Location (GPS) to disable these features
- For additional GPS settings, go to Settings > Location
- Tap More and select Power saving
- To disable Hotspot, first return to Settings
- Under Wireless & Networks, tap More
- Turn off Tethering & Mobile Hotspot
Switch to 2G Connectivity:
NOTE: If you dont have quick access to a wall socket or battery bank and your phone runs low on battery or you want to conserve battery life, you can temporarily switch to 2G until the next recharge.
- Access Settings
- Under Wireless & Networks, tap More
- Tap Mobile networks > Preferred network type
- Select 2G
Decrease Screen Brightness and Timeout Duration:
- Open the Settings menu
- Scroll to Device and tap Display
- Disable Adaptive Brightness if necessary
- Tap Brightness level and drag the slider to the left to decrease luminosity
- Return to Display and tap Sleep
- Select a lower timeout value such as 15 seconds
Minimize Third Party App Usage:
NOTE: Third party apps can affect battery life even when unused, due to the fact that they can still run regular background processes. As such, by turning off or removing unused third party apps, you might be able to improve battery life in the long run.
- Open the Settings menu
- Tap Apps under Device
- Go to Downloaded
- Select the desired app and tap Force Stop / Disable to turn it off
- To remove the app from the phone, tap Uninstall > OK
NOTE: According to recent tests, the Facebook and Facebook Messenger apps can greatly affect battery life (10-15%), so if necessary you can remove these apps and use alternative applications instead, such as Facebook Lite.
Change Sync Settings:
NOTE: By lowering the amount of data being synced by your device, you can improve battery life in the long run.
- Tap Apps on the home screen
- Open Settings
- Scroll to Personal and tap Accounts
- Select an account type
- Clear the check boxes associated with the sync options you want to turn off
