Enable Battery Saving Mode:
- Tap Apps on the home screen
- Open Settings
- Scroll to Device and tap Battery
- Tap Menu and turn on Battery saver
Lower the Screen Brightness and Timeout Duration:
- On the home screen, swipe the Status bar down using two fingers
- Drag the brightness slider to the left to decrease luminosity
- For more options, access Settings
- Under Device, tap Display
- Optionally, enable or disable Adaptive brightness
- Tap Sleep and select a lower timeout value such as 30 seconds
Turn Off Unused Connectivity Features:
NOTE: By turning off Wi-Fi, Hotspot, Bluetooth, and GPS when unused, you can improve battery life in the long run. To do this:
- Swipe the Status bar down on the home screen
- Tap the Wi-Fi, Location and Bluetooth tiles to disable these options
- Go to Settings for more GPS options
- Tap Location > Mode
- Select Battery saving
- To disable Wi-Fi Hotspot, return to Settings and tap More under Wireless & Networks
- Tap Tethering & portable hotspot and then set the switch to OFF to disable the feature
Switch to 2G Connectivity Temporarily:
NOTE: In case your phone runs low on battery and you dont have quick access to a wall socket or battery bank, you can conserve battery life until the next recharge by temporarily switching to 2G networks.
- Go to Settings
- Tap More under Wireless & Networks
- Tap Mobile networks > Preferred network type
- Enable 2G
Minimize Third Party App Usage:
NOTE: Certain third party apps can perform regular background processes, and as such they can affect battery life even when they are not actively in use. By disabling or removing unused third party apps from the phone, you might improve battery life in the long run.
- Open Settings
- Scroll to Device and tap Apps
- Ensure All Apps is selected from the drop-down menu
- Select the desired app
- Tap Force stop to turn off the app
- To remove the app, tap Uninstall
NOTE: You can also uninstall applications by opening the apps drawer, and dragging & dropping the desired app shortcut on top of the Uninstall section at the top.
Change Sync Settings:
NOTE: By changing the sync settings of your accounts / apps to minimize sync, you can improve battery life in the long run.
- Open the apps drawer
- Launch Settings
- Tap Accounts under Personal
- Select an account and turn the available / desired sync options On or Off
Keep the OS Updated:
NOTE: Software updates can include battery life improvements, and as such its recommended to keep the OS up to date at all times. To check if new updates are available:
- First open Settings
- Then scroll to and tap About phone
- Tap System updates
- Check if a new update is available, and if applicable, follow the on-screen prompts to download and apply the update(s). NOTE: The update process will require a reboot
