Enable Battery Saving Mode:
- Open the apps drawer
- Launch Settings and scroll to Device
- Tap Battery > Menu
- Turn on Battery saver
Lower the Screen Brightness and Timeout Duration:
- On the home screen, swipe the Status bar down using two fingers
- Drag the Brightness slider towards the left to decrease screen luminosity
- For additional options, open Settings
- Scroll to Device and tap Display
- Optionally, turn Adaptive brightness ON or OFF
- Tap Sleep for timeout options
- Select a lower timeout value, such as 15 seconds
Disable Unused Connectivity Features:
NOTE: By turning off Wi-Fi, Hotspot, Bluetooth and GPS when unused, you can improve battery life in the long run. To do this:
- Swipe the Status bar down on the home screen using two fingers
- Tap the Wi-Fi, Location (GPS) and Bluetooth tiles to turn these features OFF
- Next open Settings and tap Location (GPS)
- Tap Mode and select Battery saving
- To disable Wi-Fi Hotspot, return to Settings and tap More under Wireless & Networks
- Tap Tethering & Portable Hotspot and set the switch OFF
Switch to 2G Networks Temporarily:
NOTE: In case your phone runs low on battery and you dont have quick access to a battery bank or wall socket, you can conserve battery life until the next recharge by temporarily switching to 2G networks.
- Launch Settings
- Tap More under Wireless & Networks
- Tap Mobile networks > Preferred network type
- Enable 2G
Minimize Third Party App Usage:
NOTE: Certain third party apps can perform regular background processes, and thus they can potentially affect battery life even when they are not actively in use. By disabling or uninstalling unused apps from the device, you might improve battery life in the long run.
- Open Settings
- Scroll to Device
- Tap Apps and ensure All Apps is selected from the drop-down menu at the top
- Select the desired app and tap Force Stop / Disable to turn the app OFF
- To remove the app, tap Uninstall
NOTE: You can also uninstall apps by opening the apps drawer and dragging > dropping the desired apps shortcut over the Uninstall section at the top of the screen.
Change Settings to Reduce Sync:
NOTE: By changing the sync settings of your apps / accounts to reduce sync, you might improve battery life in the long run.
- Open the apps drawer
- Launch Settings
- Tap Accounts under Personal
- Select an account and disable the desired sync options
Keep the Software Updated:
NOTE: OS updates can include battery life improvements. Thus, its recommended to keep the OS up to date at all times.
- Launch Settings
- Scroll to and tap About phone
- Tap System updates
- Verify if a new update is available for download. If applicable, follow the on-screen steps to download and apply available updates. (NOTE: the update process will require at least one reboot)
