Turn ON Battery Saving Mode:

  1. Open the apps drawer
  2. Go to “Settings” and scroll to “Device”
  3. Tap “Battery” > “Menu”
  4. Enable “Battery saver”

Disable Unused Connectivity Features:

NOTE: By disabling connectivity features such as Wi-Fi, Hotspot, Bluetooth and GPS when they are not in use, you can avoid unnecessary scans and improve battery life in the long run.

  1. Swipe the “Status” bar down on the home screen using two fingers
  2. Tap the tiles for “Wi-Fi”, “Bluetooth” and “Location” to disable these features
  3. For more options, open “Settings”
  4. Scroll to and tap “Location”
  5. Tap “Mode” and enable “Battery saving”
  6. To disable Wi-Fi Hotspot, go back to “Settings” and tap “More” under “Wireless & Networks”
  7. Then tap “Tethering & portable hotspot” and set the switch OFF

Use 2G Networks Temporarily:

NOTE: If your phone runs low on battery and you don’t have quick access to a battery bank or wall socket, you can conserve battery life until the next recharge by temporarily switching to 2G networks.

  1. Open “Settings”
  2. Tap “More” under “Wireless & Networks”
  3. Go to “Mobile networks”
  4. Tap “Mobile networks” > “Preferred network type”
  5. Turn “2G” ON

Lower the Screen Brightness and Timeout Duration:

  1. Swipe the “Status” bar down on the home screen using two fingers
  2. Drag the “Brightness” slider towards the left side of the screen to decrease luminosity
  3. Next, open “Settings”
  4. Scroll to “Device” and tap “Display”
  5. Optionally, turn “Adaptive brightness” ON or OFF
  6. To decrease screen timeout duration, tap “Sleep” and select a lower value such as 15 seconds

Change Sync Settings:

NOTE: By changing the sync settings on your accounts’ / apps to reduce sync, you can improve battery life in the long run.

  1. Open the apps drawer
  2. Go to “Settings” and scroll to “Personal”
  3. Tap “Accounts”
  4. Select an account to change its sync settings

Minimize Third Party App Usage:

NOTE: Some third party apps perform background processes regularly, meaning that they can affect battery life even when they are not actively in use. By removing or disabling unused third party apps, you might improve battery life in the long run.

  1. Go to “Settings”
  2. Scroll to “Device” and tap “Apps”
  3. Make sure “All Apps” is selected in the drop-down menu at the top
  4. Select the desired app and tap “Force Stop” to turn it OFF
  5. To remove the app, tap “Uninstall” to confirm

NOTE: Another method of uninstalling an application is to open the apps drawer, and dragging > dropping the app’s shortcut over the “Uninstall” section at the top.

Keep the OS Up To Date:

NOTE: OS updates can include battery life improvements and as such it’s recommended to keep the software updated. To verify if new updates are available:

  1. Launch “Settings”
  2. Scroll to and tap “About phone”
  3. Tap “System updates” and check if a new update is available for download
  4. If applicable, follow the on-screen prompts to download and install any available updates. NOTE: The update process will require at least one reboot
