Enable Battery Saving Mode:
- Tap Apps on the home screen
- Go to Settings
- Scroll to Device and tap Battery
- Tap Menu and enable Battery saver
Disable Unused Connectivity Features:
NOTE: By turning off the phones connectivity options including Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS, and Hotspot when not in use, you can improve battery life in the long run.
- Swipe the Status bar down on the home screen
- Tap the Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and Location tiles to disable these features
- For additional GPS options, open Settings and go to Location
- Tap Mode and select Battery saving
- For Hotspot options, go back to Settings
- Then, tap More under Wireless & Networks
- Tap Tethering & portable hotspot and disable the option
Switch to 2G Networks Temporarily:
NOTE: if your phone runs low on battery and you dont have quick access to a battery bank or wall socket, you can conserve battery until the next recharge by temporarily switching to 2G networks.
- Open Settings
- Tap More under Wireless & Networks
- Access Mobile Networks > Preferred network type
- Select 2G
Lower the Screen Brightness and Timeout Duration:
- On the home screen, swipe the Status bar down
- Drag the Brightness slider towards the left side of the screen to decrease luminosity
- Return to Settings
- Scroll to Device and tap Display
- Optionally, enable or disable Adaptive brightness
- Tap Sleep and select a lower timeout value
Minimize Third Party App Usage:
NOTE: Certain third party apps perform regular background processes which can technically affect battery life even when not actively in use. By removing or disabling unused third party apps, you can improve battery life in the long run.
- Open Settings
- Scroll to Device and tap Apps
- Make sure All Apps is selected in the drop-down menu
- Select the desired app and tap Force Stop to turn the app Off
- Alternatively, tap Uninstall to remove the app from the device
NOTE: another way to uninstall an app is to drag its shortcut over the Uninstall section on the home screen (visible only when dragging an app shortcut)
Change Sync Settings to Reduce Sync:
NOTE: By reducing the amount of data synced by your apps / accounts, you can improve battery life in the long run.
- Go to Settings
- Scroll to Personal
- Tap Accounts and select the desired account
- Enable or disable the available sync options to reduce sync
Keep the Software Up To Date:
NOTE: OS updates can include improvements to battery life. As such, its recommended to keep the OS up to date at all times. To check for updates:
- Launch Settings
- Scroll to and tap About phone
- Tap System update and verify if a new update is available
- If applicable, follow the on-screen instructions to download and apply the update (NOTE: the update process will require at least one reboot)
