Enable Battery Saving Mode:
- Launch Settings
- Scroll to Device
- Tap Battery > Menu
- Enable Battery saver
Disable Unused Connectivity Features:
NOTE: By changing your phones connectivity features when unused, including Wi-Fi, Hotspot, Bluetooth, and GPS, you can improve battery life in the long run.
- Swipe the Status bar down on the home screen using two fingers
- Tap the Wi-Fi, Location and Bluetooth quick toggles to turn the features OFF
- For GPS options, open Settings and tap Location
- Tap Mode and select Battery saving
- To turn Wi-Fi Hotspot OFF, return to Settings
- Next, tap More under Wireless & Networks
- Tap Tethering & mobile hotspot and disable the feature
Use 2G Networks Temporarily:
NOTE: If your phone runs low on battery and you dont have quick access to a battery bank or wall socket, you can conserve battery life until the next recharge by temporarily switching to 2G networks.
- Launch Settings
- Tap More under Wireless & Networks
- Tap preferred networks
- Go to Preferred network type and select 2G
Adjust the Screen Brightness and Timeout Duration:
- Swipe the Status bar down on the home screen using two fingers
- Drag the brightness slider towards the left to decrease luminosity
- Launch Settings
- Scroll to Device and tap Display
- Optionally, enable or disable Adaptive brightness
- For screen timeout options, tap Sleep and select a lower value like 15 seconds
Minimize Third Party App Usage:
NOTE: Some third party apps perform regular background processes and can potentially affect battery life even when not actively in use. As such, by removing or disabling unused third party apps, you might improve battery life in the long run.
- Open Settings
- Scroll to Device and tap Apps
- Ensure All Apps is selected in the drop-down menu at the top
- Select the desired application
- Tap Force stop to disable the app
- To remove the app from the phone, tap Uninstall
NOTE: Another method for uninstalling an app is to open the apps drawer and drag > drop the apps shortcut over the uninstall section at the top, visible only when dragging app shortcuts.
Change Settings to Reduce Sync:
NOTE: By changing your accounts/apps sync settings to reduce sync, you can improve battery life in the long run.
- Launch Settings
- Under Personal, tap Accounts
- Select the desired account
- Change the available sync settings to reduce sync
Keep the OS Updated:
NOTE: OS updates can include improvements to battery life, and as such its recommended to keep the OS up to date at all times. To check for new updates:
- Open Settings
- Scroll to and tap About phone
- Tap System updates
- Check if a new update is available. If applicable, follow the on-screen steps to download and apply the update. NOTE: The update process will require at least one reboot
