Enable Battery Saving Mode:

  1. Launch “Settings”
  2. Scroll to “Device”
  3. Tap “Battery”
  4. Press “Menu” and turn ON “Battery saver”

Lower the Screen Brightness and Timeout Duration:

  1. Swipe the “Status” bar down on the home screen using two fingers
  2. Drag the brightness slider towards the left to decrease luminosity
  3. Launch “Settings” and scroll to “Device”
  4. Tap “Display”
  5. You can choose to enable or disable “Adaptive brightness”
  6. For timeout options, tap “Sleep” and select a lower value like “15 seconds”

Disable Unused Connectivity Features:

NOTE: By changing your phone’s connectivity features when unused, including Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, Hotspot, and GPS, you can improve battery life in the long run.

  1. Swipe the “Status” bar down on the home screen using two fingers
  2. Tap the “Wi-Fi”, “Bluetooth” and “Location” (GPS) quick toggles to disable these features
  3. Open “Settings” for more options
  4. Tap “Location” > “Mode” and enable “Battery saving”
  5. To turn Hotspot OFF, go back to “Settings” and tap “More” under “Wireless & Networks”
  6. Tap “Tethering & mobile hotspot” and disable the feature

Switch to 2G Networks Temporarily:

NOTE: if your phone runs low on battery and you don’t have quick access to a battery bank or wall socket, you can conserve battery life until the next recharge by temporarily switching to 2G networks.

  1. Launch “Settings”
  2. Under “Wireless & Networks”, tap “More”
  3. Tap “Preferred networks” > “Preferred network type”
  4. Select “2G”

Minimize Third Party App Usage:

NOTE: Some third party apps perform regular background processes and as such they can potentially affect battery life even when they are not actively in use. By removing or disabling unused third party apps, you can improve battery life in the long run.

  1. Open “Settings”
  2. Scroll to “Device”
  3. Tap “Apps” and select “All Apps” from the drop-down menu at the top
  4. Tap the desired application
  5. To disable the app, tap “Force stop” / “Disable”
  6. To remove the app from the phone, tap “Uninstall”

NOTE: Another method for uninstalling apps is to open the apps drawer and then drag and drop the app’s shortcut over the “Uninstall” section at the top (visible only when dragging app shortcuts)

Change Sync Settings:

NOTE: By changing your apps/ accounts sync settings to reduce the amount of data synced with your device, you might improve battery life in the long run.

  1. Go to “Settings”
  2. Scroll to “Personal” and tap “Accounts”
  3. Select the desired account
  4. Change the available options to reduce sync for your apps / account

Keep the OS Updated:

NOTE: OS updates can improve battery life and thus it’s recommended to keep the OS up to date at all times.

  1. Open “Settings”
  2. Scroll to and tap “About phone”
  3. Tap “System updates”
  4. Check if a new update is available, and if applicable, follow the on-screen steps to download and apply the update. NOTE: the process will require at least one reboot
