Enable Battery Saving Mode:
- Launch Settings
- Scroll to Device
- Tap Battery
- Press Menu and turn ON Battery saver
Lower the Screen Brightness and Timeout Duration:
- Swipe the Status bar down on the home screen using two fingers
- Drag the brightness slider towards the left to decrease luminosity
- Launch Settings and scroll to Device
- Tap Display
- You can choose to enable or disable Adaptive brightness
- For timeout options, tap Sleep and select a lower value like 15 seconds
Disable Unused Connectivity Features:
NOTE: By changing your phones connectivity features when unused, including Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, Hotspot, and GPS, you can improve battery life in the long run.
- Swipe the Status bar down on the home screen using two fingers
- Tap the Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and Location (GPS) quick toggles to disable these features
- Open Settings for more options
- Tap Location > Mode and enable Battery saving
- To turn Hotspot OFF, go back to Settings and tap More under Wireless & Networks
- Tap Tethering & mobile hotspot and disable the feature
Switch to 2G Networks Temporarily:
NOTE: if your phone runs low on battery and you dont have quick access to a battery bank or wall socket, you can conserve battery life until the next recharge by temporarily switching to 2G networks.
- Launch Settings
- Under Wireless & Networks, tap More
- Tap Preferred networks > Preferred network type
- Select 2G
Minimize Third Party App Usage:
NOTE: Some third party apps perform regular background processes and as such they can potentially affect battery life even when they are not actively in use. By removing or disabling unused third party apps, you can improve battery life in the long run.
- Open Settings
- Scroll to Device
- Tap Apps and select All Apps from the drop-down menu at the top
- Tap the desired application
- To disable the app, tap Force stop / Disable
- To remove the app from the phone, tap Uninstall
NOTE: Another method for uninstalling apps is to open the apps drawer and then drag and drop the apps shortcut over the Uninstall section at the top (visible only when dragging app shortcuts)
Change Sync Settings:
NOTE: By changing your apps/ accounts sync settings to reduce the amount of data synced with your device, you might improve battery life in the long run.
- Go to Settings
- Scroll to Personal and tap Accounts
- Select the desired account
- Change the available options to reduce sync for your apps / account
Keep the OS Updated:
NOTE: OS updates can improve battery life and thus its recommended to keep the OS up to date at all times.
- Open Settings
- Scroll to and tap About phone
- Tap System updates
- Check if a new update is available, and if applicable, follow the on-screen steps to download and apply the update. NOTE: the process will require at least one reboot
