Enable Battery Saving Mode:

  1. Open “Settings”
  2. Scroll to “Device” and tap “Battery”
  3. Tap “Menu” and enable “Battery saver”

Lower the Screen Brightness and Timeout Duration:

  1. Open “Settings”
  2. Scroll to “Device” and tap “Display”
  3. If necessary, disable “Adaptive brightness”
  4. Drag the brightness slider towards the left side of the screen to decrease brightness
  5. For timeout options, go back to “Display” and tap “Sleep”
  6. Then, select a lower timeout value such as “15 seconds”

Turn Off Unused Connectivity Options:

NOTE: By disabling your phone’s connectivity features when not in use, such as Wi-Fi, Hotspot, Bluetooth, and GPS, you can improve battery life in the long run.

  1. On the home screen, swipe the “Status” bar down using two fingers
  2. Tap the “Wi-Fi”, “Location” (GPS) and “Bluetooth” quick toggles to turn the features OFF
  3. For more GPS options, first open “Settings”
  4. Then tap “Location” > “Mode” and select “Battery saving”
  5. To turn Hotspot OFF, return to “Settings” and tap “More” under “Wireless & Networks”
  6. Turn “Tethering & Mobile Hotspot” off

Temporarily Switch to 2G Networks:

NOTE: If your phone runs low on battery and you don’t have quick access to a wall socket or battery bank, you can conserve battery life until the next recharge by temporarily switching to 2G networks.

  1. Open “Settings”
  2. Under “Wireless & Networks” tap “More”
  3. Tap “Mobile networks” > “Preferred network type”
  4. Enable “2G”

Change Sync Settings:

NOTE: By changing your accounts’ sync settings to reduce sync, you can improve battery life in the long run.

  1. Open “Settings”
  2. Scroll to “Personal” and tap “Accounts”
  3. Select an account type
  4. Clear the check boxes linked with the sync options you want to disable

Minimize Third Party Applications:

NOTE: Third party apps can perform regular background tasks and thus they can potentially affect battery life even when not actively in use. By disabling or removing unused third party apps from the phone, you might improve battery life in the long run.

  1. Open “Settings” and scroll to “Device”
  2. Tap “Apps” and swipe to “Downloaded”
  3. Select the desired app and tap “Force Stop” / “Disable”
  4. To remove the app from the phone, tap “Uninstall” > “OK”

Keep the OS Up To Date:

NOTE: OS updates can include improvements to battery life, thus it’s recommended to keep the OS up to date at all times. To check for new updates:

  1. Open “Settings”
  2. Scroll to and tap “About phone”
  3. Access “System updates”
  4. Check if a new update is available and if applicable, follow the on-screen prompts to download and apply the update (NOTE: the process will require at least one reboot)
