Enable Battery Saving Mode:

  1. Open the apps drawer
  2. Launch “Settings”
  3. Scroll to “Device” and tap “Battery”
  4. Tap “Menu”
  5. Enable “Battery saver”

Lower the Screen Brightness and Timeout Duration:

  1. On the home screen, swipe the “Status” bar down using two fingers
  2. Drag the brightness slider towards the left to decrease luminosity
  3. Launch “Settings” and scroll to “Device”
  4. Tap “Display” and optionally, enable or disable “Adaptive brightness”
  5. For timeout options, tap “Sleep” and select a lower value

Disable the Phone’s Connectivity Features:

NOTE: By disabling your phone’s connectivity features when unused, including Wi-Fi, Hotspot, Location (GPS) and Bluetooth, you can improve battery life in the long run.

  1. On the home screen, swipe the “Status” bar down using two fingers
  2. Tap the “Wi-Fi”, “Location” and “Bluetooth” quick toggles to disable the features
  3. For more options, open “Settings” and scroll to “Location” (GPS)
  4. Tap “Mode” and enable “Battery saving”
  5. Go back to “Settings” and tap “More” under “Wireless & Networks”
  6. Tap and disable “Tethering & portable hotspot”

Switch to 2G Networks Temporarily:

NOTE: If your smartphone runs low on battery and you don’t have quick access to a wall socket or battery bank, you can conserve battery life until the next recharge by temporarily switching to 2G networks.

  1. Launch “Settings”
  2. Tap “More” under “Wireless & Networks”
  3. Tap “Mobile networks”
  4. Access “Preferred network type”
  5. Enable “2G”

Minimize Third Party App Usage:

NOTE: Certain third party apps perform regular background processes which can potentially affect battery life even when not actively in use. Thus by disabling or removing unused third party apps, you can improve battery life in the long run.

  1. Open “Settings”
  2. Scroll to “Device”
  3. Tap “Apps” ad make sure “All apps” is selected from the drop-down menu
  4. Select the desired application
  5. To disable the app, tap “Force stop”
  6. To remove the app from the phone, tap “Uninstall”

NOTE: You can also uninstall an app by dragging its shortcut from the apps drawer and dropping it over the “Uninstall” section at the top (visible only when dragging app shortcuts).

Change Sync Settings:

NOTE: By changing your accounts’ sync settings to reduce sync, you can improve battery life in the long run.

  1. Open the apps drawer
  2. Launch “Settings”
  3. Scroll to “Personal”
  4. Tap “Accounts” and select the desired account
  5. Change the account’s sync settings to reduce sync

Keep the OS Updated:

NOTE: OS updates can include improvements to battery life and thus it’s recommended to keep the OS up to date. To check for new updates:

  1. Launch “Settings”
  2. Scroll down to and tap “About phone”
  3. Tap “System updates”
  4. Check if a new update is available
  5. If applicable, follow the on-screen prompts to download and apply updates (NOTE: the update process will require at least one reboot)
