Enable Battery Saving Mode:

  1. Open the apps drawer
  2. Launch “Settings”
  3. Scroll to “Device” and tap “Battery”
  4. Tap “Menu” > “Battery saver”

Lower the Screen Brightness and Timeout Duration:

  1. Swipe the “Status” bar down on the home screen using two fingers
  2. Drag the brightness slider towards the left to decrease luminosity
  3. Launch “Settings”
  4. Scroll to “Device”
  5. Tap “Display” and turn “Adaptive brightness” On or Off
  6. Tap “Sleep” and select a lower value like “15 seconds”

Disable Unused Connectivity Features:

NOTE: By disabling the phone’s connectivity features when unused, including Wi-Fi, Hotspot, Bluetooth, and GPS, you can improve battery life in the long run.

  1. Swipe the “Status” bar down on the home screen using two fingers
  2. Tap the “Wi-Fi”, “Location” and “Bluetooth” quick toggles to turn the features Off
  3. Launch “Settings”
  4. Tap “Location” for GPS options, tap “Mode” and select “Battery saving”
  5. To disable hotspot, go back to “Settings” and tap “More” under “Wireless & Networks”
  6. Tap “Tethering & portable hotspot” and disable the option

Temporarily Switch to 2G Networks:

NOTE: In case your phone runs low on battery and you don’t have quick access to a wall socket or battery bank, you can conserve battery life until the next recharge by temporarily switching to 2G networks. To do this:

  1. Open “Settings”
  2. Tap “More” under “Wireless & Networks”
  3. Tap “Mobile networks”
  4. Tap “Preferred network type”
  5. Enable “2G”

Minimize Third Party App Usage:

NOTE: Certain third party apps perform regular background processes which can potentially affect battery life even when they are not actively in use. By disabling or removing unused third party apps, you might improve battery life in the long run.

  1. Launch “Settings”
  2. Scroll to “Device”
  3. Tap “Apps”
  4. Select “All apps” from the drop-down menu if necessary
  5. Select the desired application
  6. Tap “Force Stop” to disable the app
  7. Alternatively, tap “Uninstall” to remove the app from the phone

Change Sync Settings:

NOTE: By changing your accounts’ sync settings to reduce sync, you might improve battery life in the long run.

  1. Open “Settings”
  2. Scroll to “Personal”
  3. Tap “Accounts”
  4. Select an account and disable the desired sync options

Keep the OS Updated:

NOTE: OS updates can include improvements to battery life, and thus it’s recommended to keep the OS up to date at all times. To check for updates:

  1. Launch “Settings”
  2. Scroll to and tap “About phone”
  3. Tap “System updates”
  4. Check if a new update is available for download
  5. If available, follow the on-screen prompts to download and apply the update(s) (NOTE: the update process will require at least one reboot)
