Enable Battery Saving Mode:

  1. Open the apps drawer
  2. Go to “Settings” and scroll to “Device”
  3. Tap “Battery”
  4. Tap “Menu” > “Battery saver”

Lower the Screen Brightness and Timeout Duration:

  1. On the home screen swipe the “Status” bar down with two fingers
  2. Drag the brightness slider towards the left to decrease luminosity
  3. Open “Settings” and scroll to “Device”
  4. Tap “Display” an enable or disable “Adaptive brightness”
  5. Tap “Sleep” and select a lower value such as “15 seconds”

Disable Unused Connectivity Features:

NOTE: By disabling the phone’s connectivity features when unused, such as Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, Hotspot, and GPS, you can improve battery life in the long run.

  1. On the home screen, swipe the “Status” bar down using two fingers
  2. Tap the “Bluetooth”, “Wi-Fi”, “Location” quick toggles to disable the features
  3. Open “Settings” and tap “Location” for GPS options
  4. Tap “Mode” and enable “Battery saving”
  5. To disable hotspot, return to “Settings” and tap “More” under “Wireless & Networks”
  6. Then tap “Tethering & portable hotspot” and set the feature Off

Switch to 2G Networks Temporarily:

NOTE: In case your phone runs low on battery and you don’t have quick access to a battery bank or wall socket, you can conserve battery life until the next recharge by temporarily switching to 2G networks.

  1. Open “Settings”
  2. Tap “More” under “Wireless & Networks”
  3. Tap “Mobile networks” > “Preferred network type”
  4. Enable “2G”

Change Sync Settings:

NOTE: By changing your accounts’ sync settings to reduce sync, you can improve battery life in the long run.

  1. Launch “Settings”
  2. Scroll to “Personal”
  3. Tap “Accounts”
  4. Select an account and disable the desired sync settings

Minimize Third Party App Usage:

NOTE: Some third party apps perform regular background processes which can potentially affect battery life even when not actively in use. By disabling or removing unused third party apps, you might improve battery life in the long run.

  1. Launch “Settings” and scroll to “Device”
  2. Tap “Apps”
  3. Select “All apps” from the drop-down menu at the tp
  4. Tap the desired application
  5. To disable the app, tap “Force stop”
  6. To remove the app from the phone, tap “Uninstall”

Keep the OS Updated:

NOTE: Software updates can include improvements to battery life, and thus it’s recommended to keep the OS up to date at all times. To verify if new updates are available:

  1. Open “Settings”
  2. Scroll to and tap “About phone”
  3. Tap “System updates” and check if new updates are available for download
  4. If applicable, follow the on-screen prompts to download and apply available updates (NOTE: the update process will require at least one reboot)
