Enable Battery Saving Mode:
- Open Settings
- Scroll to Device and tap Battery
- Tap Menu
- Enable Battery saver
Lower the Screen Brightness and Timeout Duration:
- Swipe the status bar down on the home screen
- In the quick toggle area, drag the brightness slider towards the left
- Open Settings for additional options
- Tap Display under Device
- Optionally, enable or disable adaptive brightness
- Tap Sleep and select a lower timeout value such as 15 seconds
Disable Unused Connectivity Features:
NOTE: By disabling the phones connectivity features when unused, including Wi-Fi, Hotspot, and GPS, you can improve battery life in the long run.
- Swipe the Status bar down on the home screen
- Tap the Location, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth quick toggles to disable the features
- Open Settings and tap Location for additional GPS options
- Next tap Mode and enable Battery saving
- To disable hotspot, return to Settings and tap More under Wireless & Networks
- Tap Tethering & portable hotspot and disable the feature
Switch to 2G Networks Temporarily:
NOTE: If your phone runs low on battery and you dont have quick access to a wall socket or battery bank, you can improve battery life in the long run by temporarily switching to 2G networks.
- Open Settings
- Tap More under Wireless & Networks
- Tap Mobile networks
- Access Preferred network type
- Enable 2G
Change Sync Settings:
- Open Settings
- Scroll to Personal and tap Accounts
- Select the desired account
- Change the accounts settings to reduce sync
Minimize Third Party App Usage:
NOTE: Some third party apps perform regular background processes that can affect battery life even when the apps are not actively in use. By removing or disabling unused apps from the phone, you can improve battery life in the long run.
- Open Settings
- Go to Device and tap Apps
- Ensure All apps is selected in the drop-down menu
- Tap the desired app
- To disable the app, tap Force Stop / Disable
- To remove the app, tap Uninstall
Keep the OS Updated:
NOTE: Software updates can include improvements to battery life and thus its recommended to keep the OS up to date at all times. To check for updates:
- Launch Settings
- Scroll to and tap About phone
- Tap System updates
- Verify if a new update is available for download
- If applicable, follow the on-screen steps to download and install the update. NOTE: the update process will require at least one reboot
