Enable Battery Saving Mode:
- Open Settings
- Scroll to Device and tap Battery
- Tap Menu
- Enable Battery saver
Disable Unused Connectivity Options:
NOTE: By disabling the phones connectivity features when unused, including Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, Hotspot, and GPS, you can improve battery life in the long run.
- Swipe the Status bar down on the home screen using two fingers
- Tap the Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and Location quick toggles to disable these options
- Next open Settings and go to Location for more GPS options
- Tap Mode and enable Battery saving
- To disable hotspot, return to Settings and tap More under Wireless & Networks
- Tap Tethering & portable hotspot and turn the feature Off
Temporarily Switch to 2G Networks:
NOTE: if your phone runs low on battery and you dont have quick access to a battery bank or wall socket, you can conserve battery life until the next recharge by temporarily switching to 2G networks.
- Open Settings
- Tap More under Wireless & Networks
- Tap Mobile networks > Preferred network type
- Enable 2G
Lower the Screen Brightness and Timeout Duration:
- Swipe the Status bar down on the home screen
- Drag the Brightness slider towards the left to decrease luminosity
- Launch Settings
- Scroll to Device and tap Display
- Optionally, enable or disable Adaptive brightness
- Tap Sleep and select a lower timeout value such as 15 seconds
Minimize Third Party App Usage:
NOTE: Some third party apps perform regular background processes which can potentially affect the phones battery life even when the apps are not actively in use. Thus by disabling or removing unused third party apps from the phone, you may be able to improve battery life.
- Launch Settings
- Scroll to Device and tap Apps
- Ensure All apps is selected from the drop-down menu
- Select the desired application
- Tap Force Stop / Disable to turn the app off
- Tap Uninstall to remove the app
Reduce Sync:
NOTE: By changing your accounts sync settings to reduce sync, you can improve battery life in the long run.
- Open Settings
- Scroll to Personal
- Tap Accounts
- Select the desired account type
- Tap the desired account and change the available sync options to reduce sync
Keep the OS Up To Date:
NOTE: Software updates can include improvements to battery life and as such its recommended to keep the OS up to date at all times. To check for OS updates:
- Open Settings
- Scroll to and tap About phone
- Tap System updates and check if new updates are available for download
- If applicable follow the on-screen steps to apply updates. NOTE: the process will require at least one reboot
