Enable Battery Saving Mode:
- Launch Settings
- Scroll to Device
- Tap Battery
- Press Menu and enable Battery saver
Lower the Screen Brightness and Timeout Duration:
- Swipe the Status bar down on the home screen
- Drag the brightness slider towards the left to decrease screen brightness
- Next open Settings
- Scroll to Device and tap Display
- Optionally, enable or disable Adaptive brightness
- Tap Sleep for timeout options and select a lower value
Disable Unused Connectivity Features:
NOTE: You can turn the phones connectivity features OFF when not actively in use in order to improve battery life in the long run.
- Swipe the Status bar down on the home screen
- Tap the Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and Location quick toggles to disable the features
- Go back to Settings
- Access Location for GPS options
- Tap Mode and enable Battery saving
- To turn hotspot OFF, return to Settings and tap More under Wireless & Networks
- Tap Tethering & portable hotspot and turn the features OFF
Switch to 2G Networks Temporarily:
NOTE: If your phone runs low on battery and you dont have quick access to a battery bank or wall socket, you can conserve battery life until the next recharge by temporarily switching to 2G networks.
- Open Settings
- Tap More under Wireless & Networks
- Tap Mobile networks > Preferred network type
- Enable 2G
Minimize Third Party App Usage:
NOTE: Some third party apps perform regular background processes that can potentially affect the devices battery life even when the apps are not actively in use. Thus you can remove or disable unused third party apps to improve battery life in the long run.
- Open Settings
- Scroll to Device and tap Apps
- Access All apps
- Select the desired application
- Tap Force Stop / Disable to confirm
- To remove the app, tap Uninstall
Change Sync Settings:
NOTE: You can change your accounts settings to reduce sync and thus improve battery life in the long run.
- Launch Settings
- Scroll to Personal
- Tap Accounts
- Select an account type and the account whose sync settings you want to change
Keep the OS Up To Date:
NOTE: OS updates can include improvements to battery life and as such its recommended to keep the OS up to date at all times. To check for updates:
- Open Settings
- Scroll to and tap About phone
- Tap System updates
- Check if a new update is available for download
- If applicable, follow the on-screen steps to download and install the update (NOTE: the process will require at least one reboot)
