Enable Battery Saving Mode:

  1. Open “Settings”
  2. Scroll to “Device”
  3. Tap “Battery”
  4. Tap “Menu” and enable “Battery saver”

Disable Unused Connectivity Features:

NOTE: You can disable the phone’s connectivity features when not actively in use – such as Wi-Fi, Hotspot, Bluetooth, and GPS – to avoid unnecessary network scans and improve battery life in the long run.

  1. Swipe the Status bar down on the home screen
  2. Tap the “Bluetooth”, “Location” and “Wi-Fi” quick toggles to disable the features
  3. Launch “Settings”
  4. Go to “Location” for GPS options and tap “Mode”
  5. Enable “Battery saving”
  6. Return to “Settings” and tap “More” under “Wireless & Networks”
  7. Turn “Tethering & portable hotspot” OFF

Switch to 2G Networks Temporarily:

NOTE: If your phone runs low on battery and you don’t have quick access to a battery bank or wall socket, you can conserve battery life until the next recharge by temporarily switching to 2G networks.

  1. Open “Settings
  2. Tap “More” under “Wireless & Networks”
  3. Go to “Mobile networks”
  4. Access “Preferred network type”
  5. Select “2G”

Lower the Screen Brightness and Timeout Duration:

  1. On the home screen, swipe the Status bar down
  2. Drag the brightness slider towards the left
  3. Open “Settings” for more options
  4. Tap “Display” under “Device”
  5. Optionally, turn “Adaptive brightness” ON or OFF
  6. For timeout options, tap “Sleep”
  7. Select a lower timeout value such as “15 seconds”

Change Sync Settings:

NOTE: You can change your accounts’ sync settings to reduce sync and improve battery life in the long run.

  1. Open “Settings”
  2. Scroll to “Personal” and tap “Accounts”
  3. Select an account type
  4. Select the desired account
  5. Change the available settings to reduce sync

Minimize Third-Party App Usage:

NOTE: Certain third-party apps perform regular background processes that can potentially affect battery life when the apps are not actively in use. Thus you can disable or remove unused third-party apps to improve battery life in the long run.

  1. Open “Settings”
  2. Scroll to “Device” and go to “Apps”
  3. Make sure “All apps” is selected in the drop-down menu at the top
  4. Select the desired app
  5. To turn the app off, tap “Force Stop” / “Disable”
  6. To remove the app from the phone, tap “Uninstall”

Keep the OS Up To Date:

NOTE: OS updates can include improvements to battery life and thus it’s recommended to keep the OS up to date at all times. To check if updates are available:

  1. Open “Settings”
  2. Go to “About phone”
  3. Tap “System updates”
  4. Check if a new update is available
  5. If applicable, follow the on-screen steps to download and apply the update (NOTE: the update will require at least one reboot)
