Enable Battery Saving Mode:
- Open Settings
- Scroll to Device
- Tap Battery
- Tap Menu and enable Battery saver
Disable Unused Connectivity Features:
NOTE: You can disable the phones connectivity features when not actively in use such as Wi-Fi, Hotspot, Bluetooth, and GPS to avoid unnecessary network scans and improve battery life in the long run.
- Swipe the Status bar down on the home screen
- Tap the Bluetooth, Location and Wi-Fi quick toggles to disable the features
- Launch Settings
- Go to Location for GPS options and tap Mode
- Enable Battery saving
- Return to Settings and tap More under Wireless & Networks
- Turn Tethering & portable hotspot OFF
Switch to 2G Networks Temporarily:
NOTE: If your phone runs low on battery and you dont have quick access to a battery bank or wall socket, you can conserve battery life until the next recharge by temporarily switching to 2G networks.
- Open Settings
- Tap More under Wireless & Networks
- Go to Mobile networks
- Access Preferred network type
- Select 2G
Lower the Screen Brightness and Timeout Duration:
- On the home screen, swipe the Status bar down
- Drag the brightness slider towards the left
- Open Settings for more options
- Tap Display under Device
- Optionally, turn Adaptive brightness ON or OFF
- For timeout options, tap Sleep
- Select a lower timeout value such as 15 seconds
Change Sync Settings:
NOTE: You can change your accounts sync settings to reduce sync and improve battery life in the long run.
- Open Settings
- Scroll to Personal and tap Accounts
- Select an account type
- Select the desired account
- Change the available settings to reduce sync
Minimize Third-Party App Usage:
NOTE: Certain third-party apps perform regular background processes that can potentially affect battery life when the apps are not actively in use. Thus you can disable or remove unused third-party apps to improve battery life in the long run.
- Open Settings
- Scroll to Device and go to Apps
- Make sure All apps is selected in the drop-down menu at the top
- Select the desired app
- To turn the app off, tap Force Stop / Disable
- To remove the app from the phone, tap Uninstall
Keep the OS Up To Date:
NOTE: OS updates can include improvements to battery life and thus its recommended to keep the OS up to date at all times. To check if updates are available:
- Open Settings
- Go to About phone
- Tap System updates
- Check if a new update is available
- If applicable, follow the on-screen steps to download and apply the update (NOTE: the update will require at least one reboot)
