Enable Battery Saving Mode:
- Open Settings
- Scroll to Device
- Tap Battery
- Tap Menu and enable Battery saver
Lower the Screen Brightness and Timeout Duration:
- On the home screen, swipe the Status bar down
- Drag the brightness slider towards the left to decrease luminosity
- Open Settings for more options
- Scroll to and tap Display
- Optionally, turn Adaptive brightness ON or OFF
- For timeout options, tap Sleep and select a lower timeout value such as 15 seconds
Disable Unused Connectivity Features:
NOTE: You can disable the phones connectivity features when not actively in use such as Wi-Fi, Hotspot, Bluetooth, and Location (GPS) to avoid unnecessary network scans and potentially improve battery life in the long run.
- Swipe the Status bar down on the home screen
- Tap the Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and Location quick toggles to disable the features
- Next go to Settings
- Access Location for GPS options, tap Mode and enable Battery saving
- For other options return to Settings
- Next tap More under Wireless & Networks
- Disable Tethering & portable hotspot
Temporarily Switch to 2G Networks:
NOTE: If your phone runs low on battery and you dont have quick access to a battery bank or wall socket, you can conserve battery life until the next recharge by temporarily switching to 2G networks. To do this:
- Open Settings
- Tap More under Wireless & Networks
- Go to Mobile networks
- Access Preferred network type
- Enable 2G
Change Sync Settings:
NOTE: You can improve battery life in the long run by changing your accounts sync settings to reduce sync.
- Open Settings
- Scroll to and access Accounts
- Select an account type and the desired account
- Change the available settings to reduce sync as desired
Minimize Third-Party App Usage:
NOTE: Certain third-party apps perform regular background processes that can potentially affect the devices battery life even when the apps are not actively in use. As such, by disabling or uninstalling unused third-party apps from the phone, you may improve battery life in the long run.
- Open Settings
- Scroll to Device
- Go to Apps
- Ensure All apps is selected in the drop-down menu
- Select the desired app
- To turn the app off, tap Force Stop / Disable
- To remove the app entirely, tap Uninstall
Keep the OS Updated:
NOTE: OS updates can include improvements to battery life and thus its recommended to keep the OS up to date at all times. To check if new updates are available:
- Open Settings
- Go to About phone
- Tap System updates
- Check if a new update is available
- If applicable, follow the on-screen steps to download and apply the update (NOTE: the update process will require at least one reboot)
