Enable Battery Saving Mode:
- Launch Settings
- Go to Device
- Tap Battery > Menu and enable Battery saver
Lower the Screen Brightness and Timeout Duration:
- On the home screen, swipe the Status bar down
- Drag the brightness slider towards the left to decrease luminosity
- Open Settings
- Go to Device and tap Display
- Optionally, enable or disable Adaptive brightness
- For timeout options, access Sleep and select a lower value such as 15 seconds
Disable Unused Connectivity Features:
NOTE: By disabling the phones connectivity features when not actively in use, such as Wi-Fi, Hotspot, Bluetooth, and GPS, you can avoid unnecessary network scans and potentially improve battery life in the long run.
- Swipe the Status bar down on the home screen
- Tap the Wi-Fi, Location and Bluetooth quick toggles to disable the features
- Open Settings and go to Location for more GPS options
- Tap mode and enable Battery saving
- For hotspot options, go back to Settings and tap more under Wireless & Networks
- Tap Tethering & Portable hotspot and turn the feature Off
Temporarily Switch to 2G Networks:
NOTE: If your phone runs low on battery and you dont have the possibility to recharge it, you can conserve energy until the next recharge by temporarily switching to 2G networks.
- Open Settings
- Tap more under Wireless & Networks
- Tap Mobile networks > Preferred network type
- Enable 2G
Change Sync Settings:
NOTE: You can change your accounts settings to reduce sync and potentially improve battery life in the long run.
- Go to Settings
- Tap Accounts
- Select an account type and the desired account
- Change the available settings to reduce sync as desired
Minimize Third-Party App Usage:
NOTE: Some third-party apps perform regular background processes that can potentially affect the phones battery life even when the apps are not actively in use. You can disable or remove unused third-party apps to try and improve battery life in the long run.
- Go to Settings
- Access Apps
- If necessary, go to All apps
- Select the desired app and tap Force Stop / Disable
- To remove an app, tap Uninstall
Keep the OS Up To Date:
NOTE: OS updates can improve battery life and as such its recommended to keep the OS up to date at all times. To check for updates:
- Open Settings
- Go to About phone
- Tap System updates
- Check if new updates are available and if applicable, follow the on-screen prompts to download and apply the update (the process will require to reboot the phone at least once)
