I've had a Sprint Free Incoming Plan with unlimited incoming calls, 300 mins of outgoing (with free nights after 9pm and weekends) for $49.99 per month. The plan is about to expire, and although they dont offer these plans to new customers, they tell me I can renew the contract on the same terms.
Making calls to landlines and cellphones from my computer through Skype only costs about 2 cents per minute
Is it best to renew my Sprint plan, and keep my outgoing minutes down by using Skype?
Or are there other options?
I would like to keep my total monthly phone costs under $60.
(I am happy with my existing phone, a Sanyo Katana)
Many thanks!
Richard

Re: Svce provider AND Skype to keep costs down?
I haven't heard any success stories about Skype, but Sprint isn't all that great either.
Here are my suggestion(s):
- Continue with Sprint PCS or find another wireless carrier that could match your expectations. If you only use your phone locally, look into local regional carriers. These include carriers similar to Metro PCS and CriKet. They offer reasonable plans and allow you to make calls to any number of places in the country, but national coverage is not all that great.
- If you upgrade with Sprint, upgrade the device too. DO NOT stay with the same device another 1 or two years. This would be horrible, especially if a manufacturer defect occured=no warranty coverage! This would equal full retail price for a new phone! Also, there isn't a point to upgrade unless you want a new phone. That's why carriers allow you to "upgrade"!

Re: Svce provider AND Skype to keep costs down?
Many thanks for your reply, Nick.
Yes, most of my calls would be local (zip code 92011). I looked online at Metro PCS and Cricket its difficult to tell just how good their coverage is, of course Theyre not going to say theyre crap, even if they are (!)
Sounds like I had better upgrade the phone seems unnecessary, but I hear you. Its a pity service providers dont give lower monthly plans if we keep the older phones (my Sanyo Katana is still a great phone, and only 2 years old!)
Thanks,
Richard
