NOTE: For instructions on how to back up app data, contacts, and media files on the HTC One S9, visit this thread.
Restore App Data:
- Make sure your device is connected to an active Wi-Fi network
- Open the apps drawer
- Launch Settings and scroll to Personal
- Tap Backup and reset > Restore from HTC Backup
- Follow the on-screen steps to complete the restore
Restore Contacts from a Google Account:
- Launch Settings
- Scroll to Personal and tap Accounts & Sync
- Sign in with the Google account containing the backup
- Access the accounts sync options and ensure Contacts is enabled
- Tap Menu > Sync all
Restore Media Files from a Windows Computer:
- Connect the HTC One S9 to your computer via USB
- On the home screen, swipe the Status bar down
- Enable Media device (MTP)
- Launch the File Explorer on the computer
- Locate the media file backups and copy them
- Transfer the file backups on the phone storage, preferably in the Media folder or the directory they originate from
- After the transfer is done, eject the phone storage via system tray and safely disconnect the device from the USB port
Restore Media Files from a Mac:
- Connect the HTC One S9 to your computer via USB
- Swipe the Status bar down on the home screen
- Turn on Media device (MTP) if necessary
- On the Mac, launch the File Finder and locate the media file backups
- Copy the files and transfer them back on the phone storage
- Once the transfer is done, drag the phones virtual drive from the desktop and drop it into the trash can to eject it
- You can now safely disconnect the device from the USB cord
