WARNING! By mastering resetting your phone, all data located on the devices internal memory will be deleted. This includes downloaded content, apps, contacts, media files etc. In addition, all settings will be restored to factory values.
NOTE: Data located on the SIM and SD cards will not be affected. Before master resetting the device, you can visit this thread for instructions on how to back up data, and this thread for a guide on how to restore data. In addition, you can visit this thread for instructions on how to back up and restore data via HTC Backup or locally.
Master Reset via Settings:
- Tap Apps on the home screen
- Launch Settings
- Scroll to Personal
- Tap Backup & reset
- Enable or disable Automatic restore and Back up my data
- Tap Reset phone
- In case your device is protected by a lock screen, enter your PIN / password / pattern to proceed
- Optionally, choose whether or not to Erase SD Card too. WARNING! By enabling this option all data located on the SD Card will be deleted
- Tap OK at the Warning pop-up
- Tap OK again to confirm and reset your device
Master Reset via Recovery:
NOTE: If your phone crashes, freezes, or otherwise prevents you from resetting it via Settings, you can try resetting the phone via the System Recovery menu, which can be accessed by performing a combination of button presses.
- Turn off the phone
- Press and hold Power and Volume down at the same time
- After the phone vibrates, release Power
- When you see the hTC download mode menu, release Volume down
- Press Volume down repeatedly to navigate the menu and highlight Reboot to bootloader
- Press Power to select the highlighted option
- Highlight Boot to recovery mode and press Power
- At the exclamation mark, press and hold Power and then press and release Volume Up
- Once in the Android System Recovery screen, release all buttons
- From the Recovery menu, press Volume down repeatedly to highlight wipe data / factory reset
- Press Power
- Once the phone resets, Reboot system now will be highlighted
- Press Power
Check for OS Updates:
NOTE: After you factory reset your device, its recommended to verify if new software updates are available for download. To do this:
- Tap Apps on the home screen
- Open Settings
- Scroll to Phone
- Tap About > Software information
- Verify if a new OS version is available and, if necessary, follow the on-screen prompts to download and apply it
