Assuming that you're now a HTC Desire 501 owner and you also own an iPhone, then you may be wondering how you could transfer your iPhone contacts over to the Desire 501 without a headache. The answer is pretty simple, and below you will find four quick guides that allow you to perform a contact transfer between your iOS-powered smartphone and the Desire 501.

Using iTunes to Transfer Contacts From an iPhone to the HTC Desire 501:

iTunes can be used on a computer in order to transfer your iPhone contacts to an Android smartphone – in this case: the HTC Desire 501. All you need is a computer with an Internet connection, and the proprietary USB connector of your iPhone. If necessary, you can also visit the official Apple website for the iTunes client.

  1. Install > open iTunes on your computer
  2. Connect your iPhone to your PC via the proprietary USB cable
  3. Once your iPhone is properly connected, it will appear in iTunes. Click on it to view the summary page
  4. Access the "Info" tab and mark the "Sync Contacts With" check box. Then, click the drop-down menu and select "Google Contacts"
  5. Enter your Google account and password if you haven't done so before. Alternatively, you can select a previously set Google account by clicking "Configure"
  6. Click "Apply" and allow iTunes to sync your iPhone contacts with your Google account
  7. On your HTC Desire 501, register the same Google account that you've used in iTunes. If necessary, go to "Settings" > "Accounts" to add it
  8. Allow the Google account to sync the contacts with your device

Using iCloud to Transfer Contacts From an iPhone:

If you've used the iCloud service before, on your iPhone, then your contacts should have already been backed up onto your iCloud account. Using a computer with Internet connection, you can use the iCloud service to transfer these contacts to your HTC Desire 501.

  1. On your PC, use the Internet browser to visit www.icloud.com
  2. Sign in with your iCloud account
  3. Go to "Contacts" and select the contacts that you wish to export to your Desire 501
  4. Click the icon depicting a cog wheel. It's located in the lower-left corner
  5. Select "Export vCard". This will allow you to download a VCF file on your computer, containing the previously selected contacts
  6. Once downloaded, import the VCF file to "Google Contacts". Alternatively, connect your Desire 501 to your computer via USB, and copy the VCF file to your handset's "sdcard" directory. Then, open the "People" app, go to the "People" tab, press "Menu" > "Manage contacts" > "Import / Export contacts" > "Import from Storage card"

Using "My Contacts Backup" to Transfer iPhone Contacts:

My Contacts Backup is an iOS application that allows you to create a VCF file and send it to your Android device via email. This method of contact transfer does not require you to have access to a computer.

  1. Using your iPhone, visit the App Store and download the "My Contacts Backup" app
  2. Launch the app and go to "Backup". By doing so, you will create a VCF file containing all of your iPhone contacts
  3. Once the backup is complete, select "Email" to attach the VCF file to an email
  4. Send the email to the Gmail address that you use on your HTC Desire 501
  5. On your Android handset, open the email containing the VCF file, and download it in order to import the contacts to your device

Using the "Bump" Application to Transfer Contacts from an iPhone:

"Bump" is another application that you can use in order to transfer contacts from your iPhone to your Desire 501. Once again, you don't need access to a computer in order to use this method. However, you do need an active Internet connection on both smartphones, as Bump uses cloud computing for file transfer.

  1. On your Desire 501, visit the Play Store and download > install the "Bump" app
  2. Visit the App Store on your iPhone to download the app on your iOS device as well
  3. Open the application on both smartphones, and allow permissions when prompted to do so
  4. On your iPhone, access the "contacts" section
  5. In the list of contacts, select the ones that you wish to share with your Android device
  6. Once the "Bump now!" label shows up in the top-right corner, gently bump the two devices together
  7. Tap the "Connect" button on both devices to allow them to communicate
  8. Your Desire 501 should now receive a copy of the previously selected iPhone contacts
