WARNING! When you master reset your phone, all your personal data stored on the phones internal memory will be removed. This includes downloaded content, media files and ringtones, contacts, apps etc. In addition, all settings will be restored to factory values.
NOTE: Data stored on the SIM and SD cards will not be affected by the factory reset. To back up data from the internal memory before the factory reset, you can visit this thread for instructions, and this thread for a guide on restoring data. In addition, this guide explains how to back up and restore data via HTC Backup or locally.
Factory Reset via Settings:
- Tap Apps on the home screen
- Open Settings
- Scroll to Personal and tap Backup & reset
- Turn Back up my data and Automatic restore On or Off
- Tap Reset phone
- In case your phone is protected by a lock screen, enter the necessary PIN / password to proceed
- Optionally, choose whether to Erase SD card too. WARNING by enabling this option, all data on the SD card will be deleted
- At the Warning pop-up, tap OK
- Tap OK again to confirm and reset your device
Factory Reset via Recovery:
NOTE: In case your phone crashes, freezes, or otherwise doesnt allow you to reset it via Settings, alternatively you can try applying a factory reset from the Android System Recovery menu, which can be accessed by performing a combination of button presses.
- Make sure the phone is turned off
- Press and hold Volume down and Power
- Once the phone vibrates, release Power
- When you gain access to hTC download mode, release Volume down too
- From the menu, press Volume down repeatedly to highlight Reboot to bootloader
- Press Power to select the highlighted option
- Press Volume down to highlight boot to recovery mode
- Press Power
- When an exclamation mark appears, press and hold Power, then press and release Volume Up
- Once you gain access to Android System Recovery, release all hardware buttons
- From the Recovery menu, press Volume down repeatedly to highlight wipe data / factory reset
- Press Power to select the highlighted option
- Once the phone resets, Reboot system now will be highlighted. Press Power to confirm and restart your device
Check for OS Updates:
NOTE: After you factory reset your device, its recommended to check if new software updates are available for download. To do this:
- Tap Apps on the home screen
- Open Settings and scroll to Phone
- Tap About > Software information
- Check if a new update is available, and if necessary, follow the on-screen prompts to download and apply it
