Clear App Cache / Data:

NOTE: In case one of your applications freezes, crashes, takes up too much storage inexplicably or doesn’t work as intended, you can try fixing these issues by clearing the app’s cache and / or data.

WARNING! When you clear an app’s data, all your personal information stored within the app will be deleted. This includes credit card and login information, settings, profiles, high scores etc. To avoid losing personal app data, clear ONLY the app’s cache.

  1. Open the apps drawer
  2. Launch “Settings
  3. Tap “Apps” under “Phone”
  4. Select the desired application and tap “Storage”
  5. Tap “Clear cache” > “Clear data”
  6. Tap “OK” to confirm (read WARNING above)

Clear the Cache Partition:

NOTE: If your phone freezes, crashes, or runs out of storage inexplicably and you’re considering fixing these problems by resetting the phone, you can try clearing the phone’s cache partition instead. Doing so can yield to similar results as a factory reset, without losing any personal data on the phone storage.

  1. First make sure the phone is turned off
  2. Press and hold “Power” and “Volume Down” at the same time
  3. When the phone vibrates, release “Power”
  4. When you gain access to the “hTC download menu”, release “Volume down” as well
  5. Press “Volume down” repeatedly to navigate the menu and access “reboot to bootloader”
  6. Press “Power” to select the option
  7. Wait for the HTC logo to appear, and for the “No Command” screen to pop-up (indicated by an exclamation mark). At this point, press and hold “Power” and then press (and release) “Volume Up”
  8. Release “Power” as soon as you gain access to “Android Recovery”
  9. Navigate the recovery menu by pressing “Volume down” repeatedly, and highlight “Wipe cache partition”
  10. Press “Power” to confirm
  11. Once the cache partition has been cleared, highlight “Reboot system now” and press “Power”

NOTE: If the problems haven’t been solved by clearing the cache partition, alternatively you can visit this thread for instructions on how to factory reset the HTC device.

Reboot to Safe Mode and Remove an Application:

NOTE: In case you have installed a third party app that causes problems and prevents you from uninstalling it, you should be able to uninstall this app from within Safe Mode. In this mode all third party apps are disabled.

  1. Press and hold “Power” while on the home screen
  2. Tap and hold the “Power off” option in the “Phone options” pop-up
  3. When prompted to “Reboot to Safe Mode”, tap “Restart”
  4. Wait for the phone to reboot. Once done, it should display a “Safe Mode” watermark in the lower-left corner of the screen
  5. To remove an application, go to “Settings”
  6. Then, tap “Apps” under “Phone”
  7. Swipe to “Downloaded” and select the desired application
  8. Tap “Uninstall” > “OK” to confirm
