WARNING! When you factory reset your device, all personal data stored on the phones internal memory will be removed, including media files and ringtones, apps, downloaded content, contacts etc. In addition, all settings will be restored to factory values, but data located on the SD and SIM cards will not be affected.
NOTE: Before you factory reset your device you can visit this thread for a guide on how to back up data, and this thread for instructions on restoring data.
Factory Reset via Settings:
- Tap Apps on the home screen
- Open Settings and scroll to Personal
- Tap Backup & reset
- Turn Automatic Restore and Backup my data ON or OFF
- Tap Reset phone
- If your device is protected by a lock screen, enter your password / PIN to proceed
- Optionally you can select to Erase SD Card too. WARNING! If you enable this option all data on the SD card will be deleted
- Tap OK to confirm
Factory Reset via Recovery:
NOTE: If your phone freezes, crashes, or prevents you from resetting it via Settings, alternatively you can reset the device from the Android System Recovery menu which can be accessed by performing a combination of button presses.
- Ensure the phone is turned off
- Then, press and hold Volume down and Power at the same time
- Release Power once the phone vibrates
- After gaining access to hTC download menu release Volume down too
- From the download menu, press Volume down repeatedly to highlight reboot to bootloader
- Press Power to select the highlighted option
- Press Volume down to highlight Boot to Recovery mode
- Press Power
- At the HTC logo and No Command screen, press and hold Power and then tap Volume down
- Release Power as soon as you are in the Android Recovery menu
- Navigate the menu using the volume keys and highlight wipe data / factory reset
- Press Power
- Highlight Yes delete all user data and press Power again
- After the reset is done, highlight Reboot system now and press Power
Check for Software Updates:
NOTE: After you factory reset your device its recommended to verify if new software updates are available for download.
- Tap Apps on the home screen
- Open Settings and scroll to and tap About
- Tap Software information
- Check if a new update is available, and if applicable follow the on-screen prompts to complete the process (NOTE: the update process will require at least one reboot so make sure you save all unsaved work before proceeding)
