WARNING! When you factory reset your device, all your personal data located on the phones internal memory will be deleted, including downloaded content, ringtones, contacts, media files, apps etc. Additionally, settings will be restored to factory values, however data located on the SIM and SD Cards will not be deleted.
NOTE: Before you factory reset your device, you can visit this thread for a guide on how to back up data, and this thread for a guide on restoring data.
Factory Reset via Settings:
- Open Settings
- Scroll to Personal
- Tap Backup & reset
- Turn Automatic Restore and Back up my data On or Off
- Tap Reset phone
- In case your device is protected by a PIN / password / lock screen, enter it to proceed
- Optionally, select whether to Erase SD Card as well (WARNING: by enabling this option, the reset process will also delete all data on the SD card)
- When ready, tap OK
Factory Reset via Recovery:
NOTE: If your phone crashes, freezes, or otherwise prevents you from resetting it via Settings, alternatively you can try resetting the phone from the Recovery menu, which can be accessed by performing a combination of button presses:
- Ensure the phone is powered OFF
- Press and hold Power and Volume down at the same time
- After the phone vibrates once, release Power
- At the hTC download menu release volume down
- Navigate the menu by pressing volume down repeatedly and highlight Reboot to bootloader
- Press Power to select the highlighted option
- Press Volume down to highlight Boot to Recovery mode
- Press Power to confirm
- After you gain access to the No Command screen, press and hold Power and Volume down
- Once in Android Recovery, release Power
- From Recovery, press Volume down repeatedly to navigate the menu and highlight Wipe data / factory data reset
- Press Power to select the highlighted option
- Highlight Yes delete all user data using the volume buttons and press Power
- Once the phone completes the reset, highlight Reboot system now and press Power
Check for OS Updates:
NOTE: Once you factory reset your device, its recommended to keep the OS updated at all times. To check if new updates are available:
- Open the apps drawer and launch Settings
- Scroll to and tap About
- Tap Software information
- Verify if a new update is available. If applicable, follow the on-screen prompts to download and apply the available update. (NOTE: the update process will require at least one reboot)
