Clear App Cache/Data:

NOTE: If one of your apps freezes, crashes, doesn’t work as intended or takes up too much storage inexplicably, you can try fixing the issues by clearing the app’s cache and/or data.

WARNING! When you clear an app’s data, all of your personal data stored within the app will be deleted, including save files, high scores, user profiles, custom settings etc. To avoid losing personal app data, clear ONLY the app cache.

  1. Open “Settings”
  2. Go to “Apps” and select the desired app
  3. Tap “Storage” > “Clear cache”
  4. If clearing the cache didn’t solve the issues, tap “Clear data” > “OK” (check the WARNING above)

Clear the Phone’s Cache Partition:

NOTE: If your device freezes, crashes, or doesn’t work as intended and you’re considering a factory reset, alternatively you can solve the issues by clearing the phone’s cache partition. This can have results similar to a factory reset without losing personal data from the device.

  1. Turn the phone off if necessary
  2. Press and hold “Power” and “Volume down” at the same time
  3. Release “Power” once the phone vibrates
  4. At the “hTC download menu” release the volume buttons
  5. Press “Volume down” repeatedly to highlight “Reboot to bootloader”
  6. Press “Power” to confirm
  7. At the “No Command” screen, press and hold “Power” and “Volume Up” at the same time
  8. Release the buttons once in Recovery and use the volume buttons to highlight “Wipe cache partition”
  9. Press “Power” and once done, highlight “Reboot system now”
  10. Press “Power” one last time to confirm

NOTE: If clearing the cache partition didn’t solve the issues, you can check this thread for a guide on how to factory reset the phone instead.

Reboot to Safe Mode and Remove an App:

NOTE: If a third-party app causes issues and prevents you from uninstalling it, you should be able to remove the app while in Safe Mode. In this mode, all third-party apps are disabled by default.

  1. Press and hold “Power” on the home screen
  2. In the “Power options” pop-up, tap and hold “Power off”
  3. When prompted to “Reboot to safe mode” tap “Restart”
  4. Wait for the phone to reboot and once done, you should see a “Safe Mode” watermark in the lower area of the home screen
  5. Open “Settings” and go to “Apps”
  6. Switch to “Downloaded” if necessary
  7. Select the desired app and tap “Uninstall” > “OK”
  8. Once done, exit Safe Mode by rebooting the phone normally
