Transferring files to the microSD card through the phone using BitPim is very slow, users should transfer files to the card directly from a PC.

    1. On the microSD card, create a subdir called ringers (make sure it's in lowercase!)
    2. Copy your ringtone files to the ringers subdir.
    3. Insert the card back into the phone and start BitPim.
    4. Retrieve Ringtone data from the phone:
    - 1. Menu Data -> Get Phone Data.
    - 2. Check on Ringtone, and click on OK.
    5. Write Ringtone data back to the phone:
    - 1. Menu Data -> Send Phone Data.
    - 2. Check on Ringtone and Replace All, and click on OK.
    6. All of the ringtones stored on both the phone and the card are now available for assignment.

Step 3 through 5 should be repeated for all changes made to the ringers subdir.

Ringtones stored on the microSD card will not show up in the Ringers tab, since BitPim does not add or delete those files. (jmxp: but you will be able to select tones from that directory on the phone)

This works BEAUTIFULLY!!!! I now have 513 Ringtones stored on my phone!!! The only thing is you NEED the new BitPim,the old versions will NOT get past Verizon programming.

This is exactly what I want and need to do...but I'm afraid I don't understand everything you're saying...could you explain just a little further? I don't know what subdir is, I don't know what BitPim is either...
In other words, I'm a bit cellphone technology inclined, but this is exactly what I've been trying to do for a long time...so if someone could explain this process further to me, I'd really, REALLY appreciate it.

Ok...first off, you need to have a USB cable with drivers that are for that cable installed on your computer.

Once you have that, then you need to download the latest version if Bitpim (click on the link to go to bitpim's website).

After that, hook up your phone to your USB cable and then start up bitpim. Follow the instructions on bitpim.

You will then see what John was talking about in regards to the subdir folder and everything else.

Remember now, this is in regards to the LG VX8600. I don't know if this will work on any other LG phone or for that matter, any other Verizon phone.

I've found that the newest version will not get past Verizon's locking of the ringtone folder either. Has anybody found a way to do it on a Verizon phone?

Re: HOW-TO: vx8600 Ringtones (from sd card)

Can this be done using a bluetooth connection as well (steps 3-5 in the first post in this thread)? Or do you have to use a USB cable for this?

ALso, has anyone done this successfully on a Telus LG 8600?

    Thanks.

Yes, the ringtone is not very large so that you can use Bluetooth do that. It's very simple and fast.
